The Monkey King: Quest for the Sutra is a 2002 Hong Kong/Taiwanese TV series based on the classic Chinese novel: Journey to the West. It is also a remake of the 90's TVB version. This is the second Monkey King that is portrayed by Dicky Cheung, the other one being "Journey to the West I". It is also the first Monkey King series that is not called "Journey to the West". This was just broadcast on TVB however it is a co-production of Taiwanese-Hong Kong.

Taking place 500 years after the Havoc in Heaven, the Tang Priest is appointed by Buddha to go to the West to fetch the sacred scriptures, only to accidentally free the Monkey King. With Lady White aiming to break up the team assembled to defeat her, the Monkey King must fight in order to save his world!

This is a pilot film for an animated TV program based on "Son-goku the Monkey." In order to get an idea of the reaction of children, its main audience, a preview was held at an elementary school. It received complaints that Son-goku was portrayed too nicely.

Tang Seng, Sun Wukong, Zhu Bajie, and Sha Seng decorated the master and apprentice to Pansi Mountain, encountering the spider Jingxiao Qi and send it to home. Fortunately, the kind-hearted spider Jingqi was rescued, but unexpectedly appeared suddenly after the crisis, and the war was triggered. At the critical moment, Sun Wukong came to join the battle, and everyone worked together to suppress the crisis. The four mentors and disciples continued to embark on the path of learning.
