What do popular television makeover programs like What Not to Wear, The Biggest Loser, Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, and The Swan tell us about how to look and feel? What do they tell us about what a good life looks like in contemporary America? This new film based on Katherine Sender's book The Makeover explores these questions against the backdrop of American ideals of self-invention and upward mobility. Asking what it means to be an authentic self in an increasingly mediated world -- to be both ordinary and special, to be happy with who we are while always wanting something better -- Brand New You shows how the interventions featured in makeover shows, from weight loss to cosmetic surgery, reproduce conventional norms of physical attractiveness and success.

Balfron Tower, an example of the abandoned Futurist path of architecture that haunts the area surrounding the cold, gaping maw of Blackwall Tunnel, offers romantically dystopian views of Poplar’s social housing ghetto, with the silhouette of the imperial seat of power, wrapped in a glass-and-concrete shell of our debts, on the horizon. Mark Lauren, a former elite US Special Operations trainer, has developed 9 new full body workouts that can be made without the need of any equipment, whether at home, in the hotel room or in nature. These workouts are short but highly intense. At the same time, they train strength, endurance and agility and stimulate the burning of fat, which persists very long after the end of training. There are three different difficulty levels (novice, intermediate and advanced) and 3 different training plans, which I describe in the next chapter. So the workout plan is: 3 workouts per week, each workout contains 4 body weight exercises.
