While the husbands discuss cars, play cards or wrestle with maids, the wives laze in the sun, make themselves beautiful, gossip, scratch each other's nails and dream, above all, of what their lives could be like with another companion. Each one takes stock of who she is and what lies ahead. For Emma, it could be a new start with the young man on the motorcycle she's been thinking about all day. But in the evening, everything goes wrong: a couple breaks up and a phone call announces that the expected guest has been involved in an accident; dead or injured, we don't know! For Emma, reality reweaves its torn web.

Yamada and Notani meet for the first time at an arcade game booth outside a candy store. Shy Yamada is 19, living alone and beset with unspoken tragedy. The first episode – featuring frequent Borowczyk muse Marina Pierro – is the longest and, in a way, most substantial: it’s set in Renaissance Rome, with the lusty (and perpetually nude) leading lady sexually involved with famous painters and church benefactors. The second episode is the most notorious and, consequently, gave the film its controversial poster – featuring a rabbit slowly disappearing under the skirt of a teenage girl (played by Gaelle Legrand). The third and final episode, which has a modern-day setting, is the shortest – but also, possibly, the most outrageous: Pascale Christophe is a young married woman who’s abducted on a busy Parisian street by a small-time hood hidden inside a cardboard box!

In 1982, the socialist researcher Ishidō Kiyotomo organized a round table with women activists who had participated in the rise of the labor movement, from the Taishō era (1912-1925) to the Shōwa era (1926-1989). At his request, Haneda records this meeting. Stimulated by her desire to " preserve the history of these women ", the director adds additional sequences to the recording. In the film, the discrimination and domination suffered by these activists are told in the first person.

The charismatic Snaporaz encounters an alluring woman on a train and pursues her through a forest. He ends up at a hotel populated by women gathered for a feminist conference, where he is an unwanted presence. Snaporaz soon discovers he’s entered a phantasmagoric world where women have taken power.

Haneda’s debut as full director, made after four years spent as an assistant, is set in a farming village in Shiga Prefecture (east of Kyoto). The film depicts the traditional architecture, lifestyles and customs of the village, its agricultural and domestic labour, but its central focus, as with many of Iwanami’s early films, is on education.

For his film Sára interviewed women who as young girls had endured difficult surroundings and constant denigration in the labor camps. The trilogy showcases uniquely female experiences. We will find out what happened to women who gave birth in the camps and what kinds of survival strategies they employed to get through the 12-hour workdays and the near-starving conditions.
