武甲風葬 2016 - "Buko Fuso" aka Funeral in the Wind, 8mm. Filmed at Mount Bukō (武甲山, Bukō-san) in Chichibu, Saitama, Japan. The summit of Mt. Buko was blown up in 1980. Three years before I was born. Shin Sasakubo grew up listening to blasts of dynamite scar the slopes of Mount Buko and echo across his small town every day at half past noon. Ritual. The pyramid-shaped mountain is considered a sacred symbol in the Saitama Prefecture known as Chichibu.

Reflecting on the perpetuation of history's traumas, Jean-Marie Teno's latest film continues his ongoing project of documenting the impact of colonial and postcolonial politics on the lives of the people in his native Cameroon. Leaf in the Wind is both a reclaiming of forgotten chapters of Cameroonian history and a foray into the personal stories and broken lives behind the history.

Set in a snowy Iranian army training camp, the intimacy of the barracks is contrasted with the namelessness of the conscripts. This movie most closely tracks the conversations of two soon to be soldiers and the hand held tape recorder that one hides from the drill instructors. When one of them gets a leave to go to Tehran this recorder becomes a means of communicating to home for many of the conscripts, and is a way for them to pick up the sounds of the city in the remote training camp.

Smalltown confectioner Lespinasse, hopeful of being reelected as chief councillor, is opposed by Darcepoil, the local druggist. Darcepoil arranges for the incumbent's defeat by having Pantaflon, a nightclub singer, lure him to the nudist camp on the Isle of Levant, where Lespinasse is photographed surrounded by half-naked women. At home, he is berated by his wife and thrown out of office; but he returns to Levant with the penitent Pantaflon and is welcomed by the nudists and voted camp president. His forgiving wife follows him and herself becomes a nudist.
