Armed Forces Day, Uniform to Work Day, Camo Day, National Heroes Day - in the streets, on television, on the web, at sports events, in schools, advertising and fashion – the military presence in civilian life is on the march. The public and ever younger children are being groomed to collude in the increasing militarisation of UK society. Interweaving the powerful and moving testimonies of veterans of Britain’s unbroken century of wars with expert commentary, archive and a redolent score, War School’s mosaic of sound and imagery evokes the story of the child soldier who becomes a peace campaigner, challenging the myth of Britain's benign role in world affairs and asking if perpetual war is really what we want for future generations?
It's still the bloodiest war ever fought by the United States. The Civil War divided a nation, pitted brother against brother, friend against friend, family against family and nearly destroyed a nation. When it was over the country was decimated, worn and beaten, but the American spirit was stronger than ever and freedom for all peoples had been upheld and preserved. No one loves war, but as it showed us, the cost of freedom isn't free!

Filmmaker Norman Lee’s searing 1934 documentary is a true testament to what soldiers endure during their time with the armed forces. Understanding that the public’s knowledge of wartime experience was limited to newsreels and photographs, Lee complements such footage with first-hand accounts and footage to help audiences better understand and sympathize with the brutal realities of war. From leaving families and loved ones to fighting on the battlefield and risking lives, nearly each personal facet is explored and discussed in Lee’s powerful testament. This film was probably either inspired by, or the inspiration for, Samuel Cummins' production of the same title (q.v.)

After World War I, after the destruction of the old world order, nothing was recognizable--and what was rebuilt was only a shadow of the greatness and history that had been destroyed. Using graphic footage, commentary by leading experts, battlefield tours, archival artifacts, and previously unpublished images from L'Album de la Guerre: 1914-1919, this A & E Special argues that the Great War had a more profound effect on civilization than any other war in history, before or since.

A war propaganda animated silent film made by Harry Furniss
The stalemate of trench warfare in World War I was finally broken by the tank and self-propelled gun, and Germany capitulated. These weapons came fully into their own in World War II, and combined with the tactics of blitzkrieg, gave Germany early supremacy. Ground support aircraft such as Stuka dive-bombers were used to devastating effect. The Soviet response to this combination was the T-34 tank whose 76 or 85mm gun could fire high explosive shells as well as armor piercing rounds.
