A single mother decides to go on a trip from Santiago to the north of Chile with her only son. They are going to meet up with the child's father, a Chilean coalminer, after ten years of separation. The trip is plagued by silence, as the uneasy relationship between mother and son evolves and secrets of the past are brought to the surface, in this poignant tale of broken family ties, where what is left unsaid may carry more meaning than anything spoken.
In a small town, the funeral of a matriarch brings about the reunion of family members, many returning to the village after leading new lives elsewhere, some no longer speaking the language of the native land. With the passage of time, the big clan becomes fragmented as members, like other modern Chinese in mainland China, face changes in lives, ideals, and family structures. The occasion becomes a hot ground for deals and negotiations that are inevitable amid the rapid development of China, where family members prosper while relationships become calculated. Still, a funeral procession amid an impending storm requires them, already down different paths, to walk together.
Daniel Mitchell is a typical 13 year-old boy - mad about space, 'The X Files' and Pamela Anderson. Bright, capable of looking after himself, streetwise, he's the last person you'd expect to become a victim of bullying. But after he comes to the aid of a victimized school-friend, Daniel becomes the target of systematic, ruthless and destructive abuse. It starts as a personal battle between Daniel and his teenage aggressors - but it soon becomes clear that it's aided and abetted by the very people Daniel might rely upon to help - the teachers.
The movie follows today’s beachcombers in Great Britain, the Netherlands, and Japan. The same endless piles of trash left by humans cover all the shores. Our shared ocean is loaded with time travelers made of plastic, the fruit of our throwaway culture and our indifference. They are the seeds of destruction, as they end up in the entrails of creatures living in the sea. Most of the beachcombers share the same worries about the environment. Beside the plastic trash, many travelers drift between continents, such as various plants’ seeds. Like all species, they look for new living environments where they could survive on a warming planet.
Former Royal Marine Arthur Williams walks across Britain to learn about World War II, including details of women who became spies, teenagers who went down the mines, and inventors who created new weapons used in the conflict.
Walking in Circles is an American comedy web series created by Adam Rady and James Rodehaver. The show revolves around a group of adventurers on a quest to slay Sithalazalamazar, a dragon who had previously killed one of the adventurer's fathers. The series has been described by its creators as "The Office meets Lord of the Rings." The show itself follows a mockumentary format, featuring "whip-smart dialogue" with much of the humor derived from role-playing games like Dungeons & Dragons.
The images seem to suggest a traditional Chinese funeral ceremony associated with ancestor worship, though Wong has remarked they do not represent any particular ritual. The work deals with death, remembrance, and history, and was conceived as a memorial to the Chinese workers who died building the Canadian railway through the Rocky Mountains. It is also dedicated to the artist’s father, Hoy Ming Wong, and to two friends and collaborators who committed suicide, Ken Fletcher (1954-1978) and Paul Speed (1967-1991). Wong created the work while artist-in-residence at the Banff Centre for the Arts in Alberta. Chinaman’s Peak is the name of a mountain near Banff where, according to legend, a Chinese worker killed himself. The work was first performed at Tunnel Mountain, Banff in 1992, before being exhibited as an installation at the Contemporary Art Gallery in Vancouver, for the Chinese New Year, in 1993.
Relatively little export, cultural or otherwise, reaches the west from southeastern Africa. Spurred by curiosity about how knowledge of place spreads, Kuyenda N’kubvina looks at how thought and culture propagate in Malawi. Weaving our way through video halls, book stores, radio stations and dance floors, in cities and small villages, we meet Malawians who traffic in rhythm and ideas. The video was instigated by the filmmaker’s ignorance about the people and culture of this region, and accompanies her as she seeks out individuals and infrastructures that channel and articulate Malawian identity.

A short film to accompany my Bangkok Chao Phraya River Soundscape project. Quotations taken from Leonardo Da Vinci and Herman Hesse. The sound is one of several recordings I made of the floating river ferry 'island' stations on the Chao Phraya river running through Bangkok. There is a double c.d. of the project available on Hipshot records. One c.d. is the platforms the other is a soundscape of Bangkok itself that I recorded as I walked to and from the different station platforms.
Setting off with no food, water or shelter, Beau Miles walked 90km to work a bunch of years ago to see if a stripped back adventure could give him the kind of buzz that far away, exotic, heavily planned expeditions have given him over the years. It did. Different, but familiar feelings of challenge and insight came through. When he was asked to give a lecture about adventuring at a new building at his university, he said ‘no worries, why don’t I walk to work and deliver the lecture as soon as I get there’? So he walked to work, again.

Never one to take the easy option, Mark Thomas decided to go rambling in the Middle East and decided to walk the entire length of the Israeli Wall, crossing between the Israeli and Palestinian sides. You grow up invested in something so much, it almost starts to feel like work. Justin Mulford’s story starts off similarly as he charged the amateur motocross ranks until several challenges many amateur racers face, along other passions, started to take his interests drove him away from two wheels. Several years later, Justin got back on two wheels all on his own and found a new fulfillment. Still some fun on the dirt, but also finding expression far away from the starting gate. Dead Man Walking celebrates a new way of defining what is possible on a motocross bike.
