Just Like the Men is an original silent film written in 1914 by Ella Higginson, a novelist, poet laureate, and campaign manager for Frances Axtell. Their campaign was a success making Axtell one of the first women in Washington State to be sworn into legislative office. 100+ years later, this screwball-comedy offers a glimpse of women's first entrance into politics, just in time for the 2020 centennial of women's suffrage.

The story was inspired by the stay-down strikers in the 1930s who refused to leave the mines for three weeks. Ernie Bailey, one of the miners, relayed the story to director Karl Francis, but declined appearing in the film because HTV would not pay him on a scale comparable to Tom Jones. Mr. Bailey smoked to his dying day at the age of 99: always a staunch socialist.

Part of a gold shipment has been stolen and the Sergeant suspects Louis LeBey. When Louis is attracted to newly arrived Nedra Ruskin, Woolie-Woolie becomes jealous and tells the Sergeant where Louis hid the gold. First Louis rescues the Sergeant whose dog team crashes chasing him and then he saves Nedra from an avalanche. When he returns the injured Nedra to the settlement, the Sergeant takes him prisoner.

Parrish, a young author, leaves his study during a storm to answer a call for help. He discovers a dying man and is rewarded with a treasure map, which he shows to Carroll, a retired sea captain. They plan a quest for the treasure; but before Carroll's ship sails, Parrish is drugged, relieved of the map, and thrown from the dock.
