By his own admission, Damien Faure possesses an impressive quantity of images and films, sometimes exploited in other ways, sometimes simply left unused, and forgotten on film that was gathering dust. These archives have patiently waited to be brought back to life in this documentary, in which this travel-loving director presents an anthology of sequences shot in the four corners of the planet, from Japan to the Arctic, via India. Through the discovery of these stories collected here and there and then meticulously assembled, he wishes to offer a different vision of the contemporary world.

Rebellious 24-year-old Anne Bruneau is abandoned at the altar by her fiancé Yann. Unaware that Yann was drunk and fell down a well, Anne reacts to his absence by cutting her hair, dressing like a man, and signing on with a ship captained by a dwarf. When Yann learns what happened, he begins running south to Marseilles to rejoin her. Aboard the ship, Anne's disguise is discovered by the captain and the ship's doctor. With an Arab, she jumps ship, hiding with hookers in Marseilles while still maintaining her disguise.
Le Monde Impatient is an episode of the Filmed Diaries that takes place in New York on the occasion of my second visit to the city. It's a long wander through Manhattan, the Bronx and Queens. The end of this episode of Filmed Notebooks takes me to my favourite French regions: the Vivarais, the Velay and Saint-Marcellin, at the foot of the Vercors, where I lived as a child in the 1950s.
Aesthetic attempt in which intertwining forms, colours and dimensions are moving in such a rhythm that all landmarks are lost : are we in the world or is the world inside us? The thoughts of a man who lives and films in his studio of images and sounds, disconnected from any social or family environment. “In a world in search of meaning, in love with men of action, professing speeches that are addressed to all, I make films that militate for disengagement, inaction, waste of time. Can we live like a flower, like a cicada or a cricket?” (Francis Brou)
For nine months in 1930, seven Bretons, lobster fishermen, were "forgotten" on a volcanic island by their employers, Normans from Le Havre, heirs of the last French whalers. Four employees would die on the spot. Their descendants today revive the memory of this human tragedy which also struck 42 Madagascans. Starting from a sordid social conflict, the documentary shows that the “Forgotten Saint Paul” mark the end of an era of “colonization”, a term rarely used for the French Southern Territories, but nevertheless close to reality. This is the story of the Third World, as its discoverer, Yves de Kerguelen, named it.
