Film boundaries explore the garden geometry of the royal paths at Versailles, wandering among gilded statues and dry fountains. Nostalgia for bygone splendor is interrupted by a list of rules describing the married life of slaves. By confronting image and text, the film thus takes an abstract view of the disturbing anachronism of the distribution of power.

Filmed between 2007-2020, Between Lights Drawing Your Face unfolds as a visual essay that gently seeks to portray my grandmother Ruth Caballero de Saco during everyday moments wrapped in nostalgia and uncertainty. Between fleeting rays and foreign shadows, his figure becomes discernible before my lens, the collage of formats (Super 8mm, Hi-8, Mini DV) illuminating his life in full, from his childhood on the island of Cuba to his exodus to the United States and all that that transition entailed.

In this work, no matter which scene or cut you look at, basically a different amount of time will pass than it did during the shooting. This is true not only inside the screen of individual cuts, but also in the direction of the entire time axis. The time that flows here is a cinematic time that was newly created using the time that flowed when Mr. Kazufumi Kobayashi created a stag pattern out of paper. If we say that time is a function of motion and space, then this can be rephrased as cinematic motion and cinematic space generated by the film.
