Released in Germany as Schwarze Rosen, Black Roses represented the return to UFA studios of British musical comedy favorite Lillian Harvey, after several years in Hollywood. The delectable Harvey plays a Russian ballerina, stranded in turn-of-the-century Finland. She falls in love with sculptor Esmond Knight, a political dissident with a price on his head. To save Knight, Harvey spends the night with Tsarist governor Robert Rendel. The story is based on the real-life ballerina Marina Feodorovna, who ended up sacrificing her life on behalf of her lover. Black Roses was filmed in three languages: German, French and English; the English version was originally titled Did I Betray?

LADYSMITH BLACK MAMBAZO is the most famous and successful Zulu vocal group of all time. Founded and led by Joseph Shabalala in 1974, they quickly became hugely popular in their native South Africa, but it was their collaboration with Paul Simon on his classic Graceland album in the mideighties that brought them to a worldwide audience. The group's stunning vocal harmonies, combining a number of bass voices with a single tenor and alto and with Shabalala singing lead, are instantly recognizable and extraordinarily powerful and their live shows are also a showcase for athletic Zulu dancing. LADYSMITH BLACK MAMBAZO has played Montreux on three occasions and this program is a combination from all three performances. It features classic tracks such as "Hello My Baby", "King Of Kings", and the song cowritten with Paul Simon, Homeless, which has become their signature tune.

Formed in Kentucky by four friends at the dawn of the new millennium, Black Stone Cherry originally started playing music to escape the boredom of rural Edmonton, Kentucky. They were an instant sensation on the local rock scene and before long the hard rock quartet attracted the attention of the bigger labels. Their self-titled debut dropped in 2006 and they haven’t looked back since. BSC have been busy since their last appearance (GMM2015). Apart from ‘Black to Blues’, an EP that gives a number of blues classics a BSC makeover, there is also their 5th studio album ‘Kentucky’ (2016). Whereas Magic Mountain (2014) was somewhat heavier than its predecessors, ‘Kentucky’ is more versatile and showcases the full spectrum of Black Stone Cherry’s songwriting abilities. Their brand of hard rock is flavoured with southern rock. If you’re into no-holds-barred hard rock with heavy riffs and catchy choruses and you dig the occasional ballad, then Black Stone Cherry will do the trick.
