The monkey saw the banana and wanted to eat it very much, so he proposed to the tortoise to divide the tree, and the tortoise advised the monkey to wait for the tree to grow before dividing it. The monkey refused, and cut the tree in half with an axe, and carried away the part with the bananas. The tortoise had no choice but to move the section with the roots back and plant it. After careful management, the roots regrown the trunk soon, and a tree full of bananas was formed.

The tale was adapted to a 28-minute video format in 1979 by Huntingwood Films produced by Kevin Sullivan, directed by Martin Hunter and filmed at Black Creek Pioneer Village, Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Jeff Kahnert provided the voice of the Fir-Tree. This was the first film produced by Kevin Sullivan who went on to write, direct and produce the Anne of Green Gables movies.

The show which was filmed in Yorkshire ran for three series and 20 episodes. The premise of the show was that 12-year-old Adam was able to call upon his ancestors from throughout history to help him solve everyday problems. The title character was played by Anthony Lewis for the first two series, before the role was taken over by Alex Cooke.

One evening Alisi (17) climbs a huge tree and won't come down. As evening turns to night, her sanctuary becomes her prison - and her secret is out.
