This film is devoted to Algeria's vast equipment plan which has fostered the development of the ports of Algiers and Oran. The inauguration of new aerodromes, roads, the construction of dams and power stations, the development of coal production, the textile and metallurgical industry, the opening of canneries, as well as the phenomenal boom in production of wheat and wine.

Due to a garbage strike, inmates are called in to take care of the garbage collection. Taking advantage of this unexpected situation, three of them manage to elude their guards.

Sylvain Berg, a "professional" unemployed who spends his time hiking and mountain climbing, and "model" bank employee Benoît Constant, who has just been fired and does not want his wife to find out, both find themselves in Françoise Duru's office at an employment agency. Françoise is secretly in love with Sylvain, so in order to keep him close she convinces her employer to give Sylvain a job he doesn't want, instead of Benoit who not only wants it but also has the right qualifications.

In a world where the economy is no longer at the service of man but the man at the service of the economy, productivity objectives and management methods push employees to the limit. Never diseases, accidents at work have reached such a level.
