To My Father

A bankrupt cosmopolitan arrives with his daughter in Lagonisi, with the aim of finding a rich groom to guarantee financially.

En route to an audition, aspiring actress Leila stops at a motel and hooks up with one of the locals. After swallowing a weed edible, she is flooded with paranoia and insecurity about her physical appearance as a transwoman. To make matters worse, everywhere she turns she sees the apparition of her biggest tormentor. Will she summon the courage to vanquish the demons of her past once and for all?

This is a film made by Andriy Zagdansky about his father, the screenwriter Yevgeni Zagdansky, who was the editor-in-chief of the Kyivnaukfilm studio for almost 20 years. The story is interspersed with fragments of popular science films and letters from Yevgeni Zagdansky to his son in New York in the 1990s, creating a portrait of both the person himself and the whole era. My Father Evgeni is a film not just about the inevitable generational conflict and the pain of a father’s separation from his son, but also about the events of the 20th century, about people who read banned books, and about the Kyiv that shaped the Zagdanskys.

Jan's father is not his father at all. The directors knows this and takes this fact as the starting point for a very personal documentary film project about the search for his biological father(s).

If he's more like his mother, the prospects are not very good." Marcus films the Turkish landscape and talks with his newly found family, who all cry many tears. Marcus's father feels that he had no choice back then but to leave Germany, and his halfsisters explain how much they missed their father when he was away. In the meantime, we hear passages read in voice-over from the diary of Marcus's mother Gerlinde, from the time that she was with Cahit - how they met, fell in love and ultimately broke up.

In a dance where a daughter seeks all the caress never received from her father’s hands, a letter is written by gestures, images and words in an attempt to rescue a relationship that was lost by fear.

In a different generation that holds similarities to this one, our fathers who had dreams and hopes beyond the poverty began their youths suffering from unemployment and struggling to earn money. However, they say those times were like Utopia. They even say they are sorry for not being able to present youths today with the same experiences. They were known as 'work animals' because all they did was work, but they proudly say did that to feel accomplished at the end of the day. It was a world where the working environment was decent. However, once the jobs that they spent their whole youths on disappeared, they reminisced over them in silence. They are trying to return the favor to their families now. This documentary is the confession from our fathers who devoted everything to work.

A middle-aged man, an architect by trade, decides to make an end run around getting married. He marries a charming young woman, tenderly in love, who proves incapable of holding him back and, above all, of making him work. But a young American arrives in Paris and reveals that he is the architect's natural son. At first reluctant, the latter and his young wife quickly adapt to the new situation, until the son, a businessman through and through, wants to share with his father his ideas on life, which can be summed up in one sentence: hard work, with no time for pleasure. The father is quick to balk, and the son is forced to unwillingly participate in the fickle architect's nightlife. Eventually, the father is able to settle down, while the son, having acquired a taste for love, has a good time.

Roger, editor of a women's magazine, meets Roberte, his friend Jean's former mistress, at a major couturier's during a collection presentation. Roberte, who now lives in Florence with her niece Maria, asks Roger to arrange a student exchange so that Maria can come to Paris to perfect her French. They miss their respective trains and take a walk together. A flirtation begins, then each goes back to the other. Jean finds Maria charming and, like an unrepentant Don Juan, decides to win her over, but thanks to his old maid, his intrigues come to nothing and Maria can marry Philippe.

A'gan, a high school senior with no expectations for the future and a carefree attitude toward everything, finds himself suddenly under strict supervision when his father, who has been away for a long time, returns home. An accident, along with a "mutual assistance agreement" between his father and Lin Xin'er, A'gan's crush, inadvertently leads to his father becoming A'gan's deskmate. This triggers a string of comical and heartwarming moments as both father and son gain new insights into love and life.
