A narrative spoken word short film that exists as a tender expression of what love looks like as it ages and to encapsulate the emotions and sensations of relational memories in a poetically driven dreamlike bubble. The poem is an LGBTQ+ story involving two men, beginning in the 1970s, and it describes, through the use of vignettes, how their love has aged and grown. It captures the heart of their relationship at different ages and time periods. The way it felt, the things they did together, what the relationship truly meant to them.

Over the spring, summer, and fall of 2020 while COVID restrictions came and went, six people with lived experience of homelessness in Edmonton, Alberta told their stories in their own words. Those words formed five-minute monologue scripts, and the original interviewees reviewed the text, and made changes where they wished. This is Not Me tells the story of unhappy gay men who have had to marry women to hide their sexual orientation in the face of societal and family pressure in Turkey, and their own internal conflicts. The three main characters of the film, Mustafa, Mehmet and Yusuf migrated to Istanbul from small towns and come from conservative families. The film reveals each characters’ world: exhausted from continually playing at social roles and lying about their identity, faltering between their reality and their dreams, frustrated and stuck in their lives. It also looks at the subject from the aspect of women who are the other victims of these marriages. Mehmet and Yusuf, both married to women, act the part of heterosexual males and family men within their own social circles.

From our window one can see a set of the film The Green Years, directed by Paulo Rocha in 1963. This was our starting point: guided by Rocha's gaze, we look back at the places of that film. The successive geological, urbanistic and social strata of Lisbon, besieged by the pandemic that interrupted the shooting, are drawn out in front of our camera, like a contemporary jazz impro from a score written in 1963.

Without showing any explicit battle footage, this film nevertheless manages to show the life of Ukrainian soldiers and volunteers on the Donetsk front. Images of ruin and destruction from places that only recently were the scenes of fighting are transformed into a tragicomic parable of survival in a provisional space-time. Looting is a daily occurrence, and going out in search of booty becomes a boyish adventure during which the participants explore places only recently inhabited by private individuals. And when all this is recorded by a Polish television crew headed by a canny female reporter, an existential satire is born. The war is there, but somewhere around the corner.
