These Men For Everybody

Alexander V. Men was a Russian Orthodox priest, theologian and writer, whose influence is felt among Christians, both in Russia and abroad. He was murdered on September 9th, 1990.

The partisan Welichko is given the task of rescuing four Russian prisoners of war who are in one of the freight cars of a German train.

A team of rescue workers do what they can in the desperate situation left by an earthquake in the Kyrgyz mountains.

Under a score of abbreviated drones and freeform woodwinds, the Aleinikov brothers cut together a series of images, found and made, that look unfailingly bleak, industrial or both bleak and industrial: disused factories, clunky utilitarian machinery, strings of unsettlingly young violinists, old-timey group portraits with everyone's eyes scratched out. Interspersed are less overtly sinister but somehow eerier snatches of action, like a circling brood of crude stop-motion mice or a bunch of little wooden people chopping wood and sawing logs, all differently affected by the vagaries time and the physical world foist onto film stock. A man has found a way to win any bet he places on a horse. However, he himself must never be the person to place the bet.

Buda, 1851. Jeromos Hétszáz, a puppet maker living in Óbuda, and his wife, Óguszta, a childless couple, have given refuge to the orphans of those fallen in the war of liberty or jailed, most recently to Pál Penyige and Borbála Derelye. Overjoyed when the chief of police orders fifty straw puppets, they are distressed on learning that the puppets will be publicly hanged in effigy of Lajos Kossuth and the leaders of the war of liberty.

Afaf is a psychopath, who escapes from her Samnoudi husband on her wedding night, then later meets with two other people and agrees with each of them separately to marry, but she escapes when the moments of the Qur’an come, and the same behavior is repeated with the fourth from which she also escapes, and husbands begin to present Communications on charges of polygamy.

The primitive tribe needs nothing, spends their time uselessly, and lives off another tribe next door who works hard to make supplies. One day the latter disappears, so the idlers face a difficult task... They have to decide: to work on their own or find fugitives, and they choose the second option.

Before the Islamic Revolution in Iran, women's lives were strongly determined by two contradictory factors: the traditional patriarchy and the shah's modernisation policies. This film-excerpt collage starts in 1932 – the year the first Iranian film with sound was made – and ends in 1979 revealing how, during this period, women were depicted by generally male film directors.

Mat, Wahid and Badak are three happy-go-lucky friends. All unemployed, the men struggled to make ends meet. One stormy night, a lost girl seeking shelter wanders into their home and disrupts the otherwise peaceful lives of the bachelors. Despite their inability to understand each other, the trio develops a bond with the girl in their attempt to sell her away for money. In a side plot, housewife Lela awakes to find her husband and daughter missing from the bed and frantically heads out in search of answers.

Tariq on the other hand is an actor with several transient relationships with women, while hoping to find the women of his life one day for marriage, Saeed, a surgeon, dreams of a rich woman who builds a private clinic for him

On a dark and ominous night, Fei Jai, who works in a real estate agency, receives an order from his boss to persuade an elderly owner to sell his flat, the only remaining occupied flat in the old residential building. In view of the lucrative profit, Fei Jai has to get rid of the cranky old owner by all possible means, but supernatural forces in the spooky rundown building seem to thwart his every effort to reach the flat. Failure not being an option, Fei Jai eventually arrives at his destination after much ado where an unexpected turn of events awaits. The story is about a poor shoemaker named Simon and his wife Matrena who, moved by pity, take in a man Simon finds naked and hungry. The man turns out to be more than what Simon thought.
