LIKE THERE'S NO TOMORROW - is a feature-length comedy made up of several short movies that are all based on the same theme of characters who are living in a moment where they feel like they have no future.

Bunga (Sonia Isabella), ran away from the orphanage because she did not want to be accused as a liar. In his flight she starves and has to sing on the streets with a boy, meet criminals, etc. She was put in an orphanage by her father, Budi (Deddy Mizwar), for stealing and lying to her stepmother. Budi died after visiting Bunga. A car hit him. Orphanage administrators search for Bunga.

This story follows the life of Amber a transgender teen that is trying to become her true self while dealing with the pressure of society.

This new work is developed from footage collected during a trip to the remote and beautiful sub-tropical island of Vanuatu in the South Pacific. In March 2015, after Rivers’ visit, Vanuatu was devastated by Cyclone Pam, laying waste large parts of the islands. River’s 16mm lm material has become a record of a place that has irrevocably changed. Filmed on 16mm and then digitised, island imagery of active volcanoes, underwater WW2 debris, children playing, and wrecked boats transform into intangible digital recollections of the island. Images of the eroded land merge with eroding lm and deteriorate until they are no longer recognisable.

Superheroes with no actual superpowers.

In October 2000, a police officer shot and killed unarmed 17-year old Asel Asleh. His story is tragically familiar for Americans, but Asel was not killed in Ferguson, New York City, Atlanta, or Minneapolis. Asel was a Palestinian teenager who was murdered by Israeli police as he participated in a demonstration, calling for an end to the Israeli occupation and settler-colonization.

We see the animator's hand as he draws Jerry (Sid Griffiths?). Jerry is cycling along but the artist hasn't drawn him a bike. Speech bubble comes out: "- Mr. Artist! What about the bike?" A bike is drawn in. Jerry carries on cycling. There is moving landscape behind him. Suddenly a fire engine starts bringing up the rear. Jerry cycles along looking scared. The fire engine chases Jerry.

Xun, a Chinese migrant worker, falls in love with Chong, a Malaysian colleague at her warehouse job. Their relationship is like an endless dance of two jellyfish in the ocean, making ends meet with no end in sight. Until one day, Xun announces she is pregnant, which is a deportable offense, and the fates of Xun and Chong are altered forever.

In I AM NOT THERE personal memories and family recordings of the past are haunting the present. Video8 fragments of a day as a child are superimposed with images thirty years later, the look through the viewfinder onto the empty spaces of the present collide with the look of the father through the viewfinder back then. The instability of the film's manual development process hints at the instability of the spatial and temporal coordinates of our existence, the absence of a negative at the transience of memory.

Aylin, a promising actress in France, must return to Turkey urgently to see her seriously ill father. But the bureaucratic problems she faces, force her to make a tough decision: If she goes back to her homeland she won't be able to return and if she stays she won't be able to say goodbye to her father. The clock keeps ticking for Aylin.
