The Town That Banned Christmas

The story started when Hero, who was originally from the city, moved to Xingfuyuan orphanage in the countryside. He befriends the quirky Ah Feng, who loves martial arts novels and Aisyah, who wants to be a wrestler. When Hero`s mother did not pick him up as she had promised, the trio embark on a journey together to search for Hero`s family.

The film was banned from public screening for 43 years, it was censored by the Academy of Theatre, Film, Radio and Television (today's FDU). Before filming, Jovanović lived in a university town for several months, researching the life of students. The then head of the Academy, Vjekoslav Afrić, was shocked by the truth about the university city at the internal screening of the film. He addresses Jovanović verbally and aggressively, threatening him with a criminal report. Although he has never been to the university town, he accuses Jovanović of directing the students' lives and says that he will be held accountable for that. Afrić formed two commissions with the task of visiting the university town the next day and confirming Afrić's claims. The commissions determined that the film faithfully portrayed life in the university town. Despite this, Afrić insisted that a report be filed against Jovanović to the State Security Service (successors of OZNa and UDBA).

Legendary Russian writer Sergei Dovlatov's book "The Compromise" was published at the time of the author's emigration in USA and describes the period that Dovlatov himself has called "Interior emigration" - that is the years that he spent in Tallinn, Estonia as a journalist (1972-1976). The documentary interviews the prototypes of the book, including Dovlatov's former colleagues and friends who comment on the literary work. They share background information that helps to interpret both Dovlatov's destiny as well as the essence of the Soviet era.

Of course in Bremen.

A hotel owner orders Marwan and his team to remove the mentally ill people from the streets, and cast them into the forest so as not to disturb his guests. However, Marwan has another plan.

A donkey has grown old and weak after having worked for [a] human being for a long time. Realizing his prime time has passed, the donkey decides to go to Bremen to join the town musicians. On the way there, he meets a dog, a cat, and a rooster, and they find the robbers’ house. Four animals scare the robbers away from the house. They make their new lives with their new home.

Due to a combination of bad writing, unnecessary and distracting directorial gimmicks (split screens, black & white, slow motion, etc.) and very inept subtitling, "West Down Girls" is almost completely impossible to follow, but I think it has something to do with the rivalry between two girls who are members of opposing street gangs, and the arrival on the scene of a third girl who is the childhood friend of one of them and the sister of the other. The (very few) action scenes are a complete mess. The film is basically an over-the-top melodrama and makes very little sense. I was too frustrated to even enjoy the beauty of Cheryl Yang and Annie Wu.
