Fred Deux and Cécile Reims are major twentieth century artists. Over a period of several months, Matthieu Chatellier filmed them in the privacy of their peinting and engraving work. The film focuses on a precise time in their lives: the time of ageing, dispossession and questions about the hereafter.

It is based on historical facts about the sad fate of an employee of the Ministry of Internal Affairs who did not kneel before death for the sake of the truth in the difficult times of repression in the 1930s.

In this interview Müller and Kluge explore the East German’s memories of the final days of the war. The session is introduced by a clip from the Russian film maker Sergei Parajanov’s 1961 film entitled The Ukranian Rhapsody. Here a soldier of the Red Army is writing a letter to his fiancee Oskana on the home front, describing to her his imagined vision of listening to Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata in the middle of battle. “In the past I rarely listened to Beethoven,” he says, “if he had composed only the Moonlight Sonata, the war would have had to stop in front of it too.” The scene then is interrupted by the arrival of German tanks.

The body of a young woman emerges from the most infinite darkness. Doesn't seem to recognize the place. Like a long and endless dream it is swallowed up by its surroundings. Look to one side and the other. Time seems to stop. Something is chasing her. Is it a noise? Maybe it's nothing. The nothing.

During the 1880's a young swordsman, Saotome Gengo, on his way to Tokyo stops at an inn in a small town. But he does not know that his prowess has already attracted envious attention and that Senzo, the boss of the local gang, plans to have him killed. Seiji, the disowned son of the innkeeper, has run up a big gambling bill and, to settle it, the hoodlums decide to kill him. He is saved, however, by Hanako, star of the dancing troupe also staying at the inn. Gengo meets Hanako and learns that the troupe cannot open their show because the local police corruptly demand too much of the receipts. After another fight, Gengo sees the police-chief on behalf of the troupe, but is refused. So he suspects that the police and the hoodlums are implicated with each other. There seems no way to open the show until they hear that the governor is coming to the town for a local banquet. They appeal to him and he promises to investigate. It is decided that a duel will settle the matter...

Pareena's life had always been beautifully perfect until the demise of her father, who was like her life's sunshine. After her father's death, Pareena discovered a mystery surrounding his untimely demise and thus began a journey of discovering the mystery and restoring her father's honour. The more she digs, the more she learns how different human personalities can be in front of different people. This is not just for her later father, but also for Korn who behaves like a rebel with a free spirit, and Karn who has always been her perfect brother. The more she digs the more she realises that where there is sunshine there are also shadows. Humans can do wrong. Nobody is truly perfect.
