This is a very personal story about how much everything is connected. About the relationship of children and parents, ecology education and responsibility for both relations with people and with nature.

Detective Suguro is enjoying a stay at a luxurious hotel in Wakayama. Also staying at the hotel is an unusual family led by rich widow Mrs. Hondo. She acts like a tyrant around her children, who are afraid of her and are at her beck and call. Unfortunately, a tragedy strikes the Hondo Family while on a hike to a local shrine. Mrs. Hondo, who was supposed to be taking a rest on the way, is found dead. Kawahara Daisaku, the chief of the local police station, asks Suguro to help with the investigation of Mrs. Hondo’s death.

The story is about a factory guy, a young worker Volodya Kalinin, who decided to get a summer job at a pioneer camp as a counselor to "earn some money", and at the same time to relax. But the new case required a lot of effort from him, pedagogical imagination, skill, in short, there was no time for rest. As a result, mutual understanding and true friendship with the guys arose.

It was a fateful expedition into the unknown. 50.000 children marched along the banks of the Rhine and the Loire Rivers dressed in rags, dragged themselves barefoot across the snow-covered Alps. They reached the shores of the Mediterranean in a state of exhaustion, and were loaded onto shady ships and ended up as slaves at North African markets. The film snatches the stirring fate of these children from the realm of the forgotten and gives them back their dignity on the pages of history.
