The Passenger

Farrokh is a mid-aged man who lives with his brother Farid. They have a new family as their tenants but soon Farid discovers that they are alien who wants to research on Earth and send reports.

On election night in 1981, celebrations spill out onto the street and there is an air of hope and change throughout Paris. But for Elisabeth, her marriage is coming to an end and she will now have to support herself and her two teenage children. She finds work at a late-night radio show and encounters a troubled teenager named Talulah whom she invites into her home.

Each time Andrey successfully delivers a lost soul from limbo, a mysterious number on the taxi-meter counts down one by one. And with each soul’s story a little bit more of Andrey’s past is revealed. Unfortunately, the Germans lied. The psychological process undergone by the modern filmmaker while shooting the story provides the basis of this arty and challenging film.

Continuing its tradition of unearthing little-known 20th-century operas, the Bregenz Festival presented the first staged production of Polish-Russian composer Mieczysław Weinberg’s “The Passenger” in 2010. Written in 1967/68, the opera relates the chance meeting of a former concentration camp guard and one of her former inmates on an ocean liner years after the war.
