Scenery unique to Ogasawara (Also knows as the "Galápagos of the Orient," such overwhelming scale of natural landscape, unique to this World Natural Heritage site. It is populated by many delicate endemic species. Sometimes called a "glass" ecosystem, here you can see the brightest stars fill the sky. It is an ancient area of the South Island where land use is severely restricted. Looking further into the Bonin Blue Sea, you will find beautiful lively fish dancing in the water, where coral reefs, sunken boats, and migrating dolphins can be observed. A highlight to see in this area is the great power of humpback whale families appearing to raise their young for winter. The nature of Ogasawara Chichijima and its surroundings was wonderfully captured dynamically from the sky, land, and sea, simply a beauty to behold. Info: The Bonin Islands are an archipelago of over 30 islands, 1,000 kilometres directly south of Tokyo, Japan. The name comes from the word bunin, meaning "no people".

Planet Earth teems with life. However, not all of the world is particularly friendly to its inhabitants for this is also a planet of extremes: blistering deserts, barren mountain peaks, bleak icy wastelands and dark places that rarely see the sun. In the freezing world of the Arctic, the polar bear is equipped with a coat of fur and blubber designed to cope in a land where winters seem interminable. High altitude mountain ranges also present problems for animals. Mountain goats need to cope with the thin air and treacherous terrain found above the snow line. Life in the desert is a constant battle against a lack of water. The saguaro cactus can expand sufficiently to absorb a ton of water a day when the rains come. In the deepest, darkest caves, freetail bats have developed extraordinarily sensitive hearing. Finally, in the mysterious deep of our oceans, fragile jellyfish are gelatinous enough to thrive in water pressure that would crush most creatures.

The Grand Canyon in Arizona is truly one of the world's great natural wonders; it encompasses 2,000 squere miles, reaches a mile down into the earth and spreads ten miles across. Few geological formations evoke such an intense emotional response. This great chasm not only awes our senses, it harbors a multitude of wildlife: mule deer, moutain lions, coyotes, bighorn sheep, wild turkey, blue heron and desert tortoises. The Grand Canyon is also home to the kaibab squirrel, found nowhere else on the planet. More than 2,000 years ago, the Anasazi Indians lived in this region. Our program includes an exclusive segment on Shaman's Gallery, where many Anasazi rock paintings have been preserved. Theodore Roosevelt proclaimed the Grand Canyon a national park in 1908, saying "do nothing to mar its grandeur, keep it for your children, your children's children, and all who come after you."

A meditative exploration of the violent struggle for independence in southeast Asia and butterfly metamorphosis. Framed by excerpts from Sylvia Plath’s poem “Tulips,” A Partial History of the Natural World, 1965 reminds us that comfort is a privilege and denial of the suffering of others is not an option. Scored by a 1965 performance of Bartok’s “Solo for Violin 3.”
