The Locked Door

On her first anniversary, Ann Reagan finds that her sister-in-law is involved with a shady character that she used to be intimate with, and determines to intervene.

China, 1930. Spurned by her fiance, a young woman is forced to raise her child with the help of a stranger - a stranger with a surprising secret, concealed behind a locked door.

Kyung-min lives alone in a one-room apartment. One day, she finds traces of a stranger breaking into her room and soon a mysterious murder case begins to unravel.

The film follows a number of people in an apartment building during a night full of dramatic events and entanglements.

One night, she suddenly hears someone outside the door trying to break in, violently pulling the door. A security guard notices that the floors monitor are broken. This made Fang Hui's peaceful life of living alone suddenly shrouded in the shadow of anxiety. When the night came again, sleeping Fang Hui vaguely notices that someone had entered her room... but she didn't find any signs when she wakes up.

The two teenage sisters with their newly in love mom. The medieval caretaker couple and the young couple whose daughter Paula would rather sit in the stairwell than go to school. On the face of it, they all have nothing in common apart from their home address. The film tells in microscopically accurate, realistic visual language and on changing levels of the common everyday life of small people.

Adapted from Michael Lazar Issa’s story of the same name (ܗܘ ܬܪܥܢ ܚܠܝܩܐ – Aw Tar’an Khleeqa), the film tells the tragic story of Ester and Eshay, a young couple who elope only for Ester to become the victim of an honour killing. The film is an elegy on the Assyrian homeland, shaped by repeated genocide, intergenerational trauma and displacement. It captures the beauty of tradition and ritual, without shying from a critique of the patriarchal values embedded in the culture. Our Locked Door also highlights the tenacity of the Assyrian diaspora, being made on a small budget and relying on the goodwill of the communities in Australia and Armenia where it was filmed.

Behind the locked doors of a mental institution resides crooked politico Judge Drake, free from prosecution so long as he pretends to be crazy. To get the goods on Drake, private detective Ross Stewart has himself committed to the asylum as a patient. Meanwhile, reporter Kathy Lawrence, posing as Stewart's wife, acts as his liaison to the outside world.
