You can find a bit of buttermilk grass here and there: in both natural and urban environments, sometimes even in old film footage. A plant that is hardly noticed in the wild as a weed, but in laboratories it opens up a new understanding of hereditary memory and the structuring of life. The poetic essay film follows the plant from the natural habitat of the hentolite weed to the archives and cellular evolution. Whizzing camera shots and expeditions deep into the plant's innards are addictive to the eye. New technology depicts the vibrant reorganisation of life, which on the big screen looks like a mysterious fantasy world. The film is accompanied by the impressive music of a symphony orchestra. Together with the music, the film is at times reminiscent of two sections of Disney's 1940 cartoon Fantasia: the abstract animation in the first section and the formation of the Earth and the birth of life in the fourth. The film premiered at the Nordisk Panorama Film Festival 2022.

In 2013, My Voice, My Life followed classes of students from three high schools for underprivileged kids and one school for the visually impaired as they embarked on a voyage of self-discovery through taking part in a musical production. Six years later, what kinds of lives are they leading now? My Voice, My Life Revisited goes in search of four of those students: Ah Bok, Coby, Sio Fan and Tsz Nok, charting their transformation and how they have grown over these past few years, as well as the challenges they are facing today.

Nagieb Khaja is a Danish journalist of Afghan origin and he believes that the West makes decisions on Afghanistan based on an uninformed view of the country and its people. A few years ago Nagieb traveled to Afghanistan in order to refine the simplistic media image of the country, but he ended up as a prisoner of the Taliban and barely escaped. On the next trip, Nagieb brought 30 mobile cameras and asked Afghan civilians to film themselves. For the first time, we are invited into life in the forbidden zone with all the joys and sorrows, victories and defeats associated with living in the shadow of war.

In the film we come close to the man Jacob Holdt, the man behind the iconic 'American Pictures'. Now he is forced to seek out the truth about his adventurous destiny. Jacob's extreme yes philosophy threw him into arms on the great love of his life, the United States. Here the young priest's son walked from Ku Klux Klan and murderers to the blacks at the bottom of the American dream. Jacob's approach to life led him into the struggle to transform racism hatred into love between people. But what inner demons drove the vagabond from place to place? We see Jacob when he confronts the sins of the past and clears up. It is embarrassing when long forgotten secrets are revealed; it is intoxicating when old flames suddenly ignite in glowing passion; It's brutal when death reaps in the garden of love. Can the long threads of life be merged like the vagabond's own beard? This roadmovie is a tribute to 'American Pictures' and to the journey, the adventure, the wisdom and, not least, the love.

A short documentary about the Finnish fisherman, ornithologist, philosopher and deep ecologist Pentti Linkola (1932–2020). As the title indicates, the film focuses on Linkola's everyday activities during one day on his primitive estate and its surroundings in Southern Finland, shot sometime near the end of the summer in 2018. Thus the film is probably the last extensive footage of Linkola before his death on in April 2020 (right at the start of the COVID pandemic) and one of the few showing his everyday life during the summer more in detail. Other documentary films about him have focused more on the fishing that he did for a living during the autumn and winter months, in the luddite way that he did most things (using only a rowboat and a horse-drawn sleigh when the lake froze down).

The documentary tells the history of the oldest ghetto in Europe and of the Venetian Jewish community. 2016 will be its Quincentennial.The eyes of a Jewish teenager, of Venetian origin, but born and raised in New York, will lead us in this journey. Lorenzo is guided by his Aunt and two young Venetian cousins who offer him the stimulus to enter more and more into a world unknown to him.The Ghetto's atmosphere, places and history are recreated by interviews to scholars, docu-fiction and a modern animation. The history of the Venice ghetto offers us an opportunity to reflect on the story of an immigration and of a slow integration, an example of the enormous wealth that the exchange of diverse cultures can give us.

Kebi, Serge, Musa, and Hector come from different parts of the world, but they have one thing in common: they have all been tortured in their home countries. Contrary to their expectations, they survived the torture and they now all live in Finland. Life goes on, but with certain limitations. The torture has had a severe impact on them.

We hear readings from Dovzhenko's diary and hear how the great suffering of the Ukrainian people caused him to move away from beauty for it's own sake to the search for truth, expressed in his two harrowing wartime documentaries. Stalin's 1944 banning of Dovzhenko's Ukraine in Flames screenplay and his subsequent exile to Moscow affected him greatly.

To escape the oppressive military regime in Burma (Myanmar), Kyaw Kyaw Soe fled to Japan in 1991, leaving his wife behind in his motherland. He spends his days working in a restaurant to make a living and continuing his pro-democracy activities that were banned in Burma. Later, his wife is able to join him in Japan, and the two of them run a Burmese restaurant. Thus begins their new life together in exile. Living in Japan for more than 20 years, Kyaw Kyaw Soe is caught between the wish to be with his family in his own country and the desire to see democracy in his homeland.
