It's the heat of summer, but the whole town is freezing up. It's up to James Hound to find out why.

Five cops work and get on each other's nerves during a hot summer. Tak is a gambler, too much so for his girlfriend to risk marriage. Daddy, a single father, is harsh with his son who reminds him of the woman who abandoned them. Monk is mercurial, talkative, a show-off. Kong, a steady family man, keeps the peace. Sam is new, hoping to fit in and make it as a cop. Three brutal and murderous robbers are on the loose, and so is a former soldier, embittered over the loss of his pension, using very real bombs to extort what's due him. It's a dangerous job, and the cops must watch each other's back, regardless of their personal problems.

In Havana in the nineteen sixties, there were 140 movie theaters. Only a dozen remain today. For ten years, the cinema industry was a pillar of the Cuban Revolution, but the regime’s hardening and the economic recession precipitated its decline. Fifty years later, only a dozen movie theaters are still running in Havana, while a new generation of bold filmmakers struggles for the very existence of Cuban cinema. In the Heat of the Cold Years tells the story of Revolutionary Cuban cinema through the memories of a choral of elder filmmakers, such as Luciano Castillo, the director of the national film archives, as he scrambles for the preservation of this crumbling cultural legacy, and through a group of young Cuban filmmakers struggling to make their first feature film.

Location manager Janice Polley and associate producer Gusmano Cesaretti helm this absorbing featurette in which they discuss the photography and locales Mann utilized in the film. The pair gushes over Mann's talent, but they also touch on plenty of topics that aren't explored elsewhere on the disc.

The Heat Is On is a BBC talent show that was a regular fixture on the Saturday night schedule between 1990 and 1994. The show was originally hosted by comedian/impressionist Bobby Davro, with his catchphrase of "They're in heat, so vote with your feet!" sweeping the nation. Davro left the show in 1993 after a Sunday tabloid published an expose on his cocaine-fuelled prostitute orgies. Despite this setback though the programme continued to be a ratings winner and the show was nominated in six categories at the Baftas ceremony later that year. After continuing with a succession of guest presenters the show was eventually cancelled in late 1994, after an unfortunate incident during filming for that year's Christmas special. Producers of the show have included former presenter Chris Kelly. Notably, a six year old Dylan Mills appeared as a performer on the show. His five minute act included an array of circus skills.

There are over 20,000 wildfires in a typical year; we follow crews to a few of them. First, we see the preseason physical training and a prescribed burn, which burns the flammable underbrush before the trees themselves are flammable. But since these burns can't do the whole job, we see how firespotters pinpoint lighting-caused fires that smokejumpers then have to parachute into. In the open wilderness of Idaho, the job is relatively simple. In California, where forests are closer to civilization and the chaparral forests are much more flammable, access to the fire is easier, but fighting it is harder. And in Australia, where the forests are full of eucalyptus and tea, the flammability is compounded by the acrid smoke.

A couple of Sunday school teachers invite Chinese laundry workers to their session. In return the Chinese invite them to an opium den, where the devout schoolmarms quickly abandon their morals!

The natives call their island the “island of the lazy”, as even the mangos weigh up to two kilos. And if you‘re still hungry, you just crack open a fresh coconut at the beach. After he ruptures a cruciate ligament, the unemployed BMX pro Pete knows exactly where he‘s heading. And Rico, his Reeperbahn friend with a criminal record, is easily convinced of the prospect of never having to work.

Lord Angus Cameron's marriage to a woman of his titled Scottish class is thwarted by his secret marriage years before to Marion Hume, the housekeeper of the castle. Cameron attempts to repudiate the marriage, the only record of which is a certificate in the sunken wreck of a yacht, The White Heather . Marion goes to court to prove her claim and secure the rights of her son by Cameron, but is defeated. Alec McClintock, who is in love with Marion, and Cameron both want to recover the record, so they don diving suits and descend to the wreck. An underwater struggle ensues and Cameron severs his own air tube and drowns while attempting to cut off his rival's air supply. Alec then recovers the marriage record and wins Marion. —AFI
