The Doctor

Toomas Stockmann, the head doctor of a water clinic built in a small town by the sea, discovers that the facility is threatened by an infection caused by construction errors in the waterworks. The powerful mayor Peter Stockmann, the doctor's brother, has used his position and connections for commercial and political gain and has ignored the doctor's warnings. The upper class of the town initially supports the doctor's decision to reveal the truth, but the mayor changes due to pressure and personal interests. Dr. Stockmann is labeled an enemy of the people. He must choose whether to stick to his ideas, at the risk of his family, or surrender to demagoguery.

Dr. Rao died on 29Th of September 2010.The funeral ceremony in Sichuan, Southwest China, lasted two days and two nights and was recorded in a rather unconventional way: 5.957 single photo shots, combined to a 7 minutes short film. It shows the funeral of an ordinary Chinese man, surrounded by his family. One witnesses the enshrined body, the cremation of the deceased and the immediate handing over afterwords of his remains to the family members. The film provides a very intimate perspective on contemporary Chinese culture, where Taoist burial rites are blended with modern secular customs. The process brings to mind a theater performance with stage, acting and scenery, embodying the transition from the living to the death.

"Loves of a Small Town Doctor" is a film directed by Ming-Cheng Chiu. It was released in 1986. The film tells that the town doctor secretly liked the new nurse at home. One morning, the doctor disappeared for no reason. Everyone panics, this kind of thing never happened. The fact is that early in the morning, still not bright, doctor carrying his camera, and took an early bus to the sea. The doctor returned to the clinic the next morning. No one could see the meaning of the doctor's departure. Only doctor himself understood it.

A patient dies in a small remote hospital under questionable circumstances. The police arrive at the scene to start the investigation. They look for night duty doctor Nino for an interrogation since she was in charge of supervising the deceased woman. The investigation makes it clear that the death of the patient may not be an accident, but the police have no sufficient evidence to prove the murder.

A group of female doctors travel to a remote village during their summer holiday to offer free medical care to villagers. There they must battle prejudice and superstition as much as disease.

Two physicians from different backgrounds have a dialogue about morals and society as they clash over their different approach to the Hippocratic oath and their view of their job as doctors.

One morning, Tom’s dad the vet has had enough of it and goes fishing. Little Tom decides to replace him in his job at the zoo. When a lion is in urgent need of an ice-cream, Tom sets out to buy it, but he leaves his things in the cage. The guards think he was eaten by the lion and overall panic follows. Continuing their exploits against the Yugoslav National Liberation Army, the Ballists attack an echelon of wounded warriors led by Dr. M. He takes the wounded to a nearby town. Aware that the justice is on the side of Doctor M., Ramadan, son of one of the Ballist leaders, joins him and contributes to defeat of the Ballists.

Only twenty-five years ago, the first evidence of self-medicating behaviour among animals was reported among chimpanzees. On the basis of this pioneering research, led by the American Michael Huffman, a new science was founded: "zoopharmacognosy", or the study of animal pharmacopeia. Animals are apparently able to treat themselves actively, to detect natural substances that can provide a remedy for health problems, or to prevent them. The primatologist Michael Huffman explains how he discovered that chimpanzees can heal their diseases with medicinal plants from their environment. The scientist then comments on other very surprising examples: Birds that disinfect their nests by filling them with aromatic plants with repellent properties, a rodent that covers its coat with toxic sap as a poisonous defence against predators and elephants that place mud plasters on their injuries. Some therapeutic behaviours may even be transmitted socially among certain species.

Szymon discovers a naked woman and takes her to his secluded house where, over the next few days, she tells contradictory stories about her life. But it turns out she is not the only person in the house with something to hide.

In a small town, the driver ran away in a car accident early in the morning, leaving the scene in a panic. At the same time, the young intern Liu Wenwen entered the town for the first time under the guidance of Lao Cai. In an accident that night, Lao Cai was knocked out. The security team captain Zhou Fei and Liu Wenwen investigated together. On the second day of the incident, Zhou Fei and Liu Wenwen found the suspect—the lonely and weird man Zhao Mian in a forest hut. Zhou Fei accidentally injured himself while chasing and fleeing, and Zhao Mian also fled to the mountains. Afterwards, he was shocked to find that Zhao Mian committed suicide on the beam. The clue is broken. What is the conspiracy behind the incident, and whether Liu Wenwen, who has just arrived, can solve the mystery? The story continues.

The director is filming her mother's GP practice while fighting the dysfunctional health system and troublesome patients. In the end she also fights herself, trying to figure out how much more she will continue to work while young doctors keep emigrating from Croatia on daily basis. As soon as she retires, there will be no one to replace her.

Doctor Co is an 80-year-old doctor who tends to the refugees all over Amsterdam.
