1968, The Socialist Republic of Romania. Women catch up on the latest tendencies in beachwear, the young hippies of Hamburg are harshly criticized by Romanian students, while Nicolae Ceaușescu reads the famous defiance speech against the intervention of the Warsaw Pact troops in Czechoslovakia. Floating solemnly over all this is The Internationale, sung on a stadium by a crowd of pioneers dressed in white shirts and red ties. A certainty for each probability: the documentary is at the same time a history lesson and an ideological warning sign, the director’s endeavour permanently draws our attention to the functions of the propaganda film, yet without tarnishing the fascination that dwells in the core of the images, that of the figures that wave at us from a past buried in commonplaces and political parti pris.
The documentary, black and white, has "space" as theme, both as an abstract category and as a scope and "scene" of human relations.

Fanta Nacro’s debut film is a provocative look at cinematic illusions versus deadly realities. Riga is a farmer who lives peacefully with his wife and children on the Mossi plateau. When he hears a woman calling for help one day, his entire world is called into question. The first fiction film directed by a Burkinabé woman, A Certain Morning was presented at the 1992 Carthage Film Festival.
Based on Yılmaz Güney's script and filmed in semi-documentary style, the movie provides a fresh perspective on the history of labor issues in 1970s.
After being diagnosed with a terminal illness, a renowned philosophy professor (and author) decides to refuse palliative care, and heads to a secluded hill station to spend his final days in peace. He is accompanied by his former student and biographer in this journey, with whom he shares a complex relationship. As the disease continues to corrode his body and mind, the professor has to grapple with a memory that eludes him, regrets that haunt him and questions that he is yet to find answers to. Much like the veil of mist shrouding the valley, a great existential crisis envelops him. With the ghosts of his past resurfacing and the present turning into a nightmare, is it too late for him to seek redemption?

South African artist William Kentridge has worked in just about every medium, but he's best known for his charcoal drawing animations -- the style of which is evoked by the grainy Super 8 stock on which this documentary about Kentridge is shot. Following the artist from South Africa to Brazil, where he's setting up an installation, the film explores the social contradictions of Kentridge's work as well as the impact of landscape on his art.
More than a decade after the worldwide financial crisis of 2007–08, what does globalization mean today? Filmmaker-philosopher Jean-Daniel Lafond takes us behind the scenes of the International Economic Forum of the Americas, a massive annual gathering at which economists, financiers and politicians hold forth on the key issues of the day. Featuring first-hand testimonials by nearly two dozen influential men and women, The End of Certainties unfolds as a multi-voice meditation on the state of the world. This observational documentary offers a cogent assessment of globalization—and its ideals, disillusionment, fears and hopes—and the quest for a new humanism, characterized by greater inclusiveness and fairness.
May 8, 1945, the day of victory over Nazism, is also a day of mourning. In Algiers, thanks to demonstrations for victory, the Algerian flag appears for the first time, thus claiming independence. But in Sétif, the standard bearer is shot dead at the head of the procession and a riot breaks out. The colonial massacre that followed would extend to all of Constantine. The commission of inquiry never delivered its conclusions and an amnesty law erased the traces of this savage repression. Fifty years later, the file is open.
