Based on a true story that was narrated over 1400 years ago, The Jar deals with the epic struggle between good and evil, and highlights the ethics and virtues every family values. Set in a Middle Eastern village, the story of the jar begins when a poor yet virtuous family discovers a lost treasure buried in a jar under their new home. In their quest to return the jar to its rightful owner, a jealous and greedy neighbor who has his eye on the jar foils their attempts. A fascinating adventure ensues as the towns-folk try to solve the mystery of the jar. There are also two mice who steal the family's eggs, but are defeated by the family's pet squirrel.

Made by independent company Wytwórnia A'YoY from Zielona Góra, Poland, mostly by the members of former sketch group Kabaret Potem, this is a modern fairy tale comedy about people living outside the everyday world know to us. Their world is divided into HERE (TU) and THERE (TAM). Here is the world of slums, landfills and vacant buildings, and THERE is the world of glass skyscrapers and riches. HERE is ruled by The President (Stanisław Tym), who is rich enough that he could live THERE, but he choses not to, as HERE he is the king. The story follows regular inhabitants of HERE, Newton (Maciej Stuhr) and his beloved Natalia (Joanna Kolaczkowska).

However, the stillness is being shaken by performers/villagers who are trying to steal The Crucified, as well as a nearby factory noises that remind of space rocket take off site. The film is based on a strange old pagan tradition, which is still preserved only in one village in Samogitia (a part of Lithuania). The tradition goes back to the archaic space of the magic’s of folk theater.
