In 1999, four meteorites, the "demon stones," fell on Tokyo, destroying the capital city. Thirty-one years later, in 2030, invaders from another dimension, calling themselves demons, suddenly attacked Megalo City, a new city built on Tokyo Bay. Their goal is to complete the magic square with the fifth demon stone, revive the Demon King, and conquer the world. Just when everyone thought that the human race had no choice but to perish, a group of young people wearing battle suits called "Baltectors" (word merge of BAttLe + proTECTOR) rose up and challenged GIL, an army of demons and crime syndicate, to a battle. They were the cyborg warriors known as Borgman.

Filmed April 12, 2003 at a benefit concert held at and for The Anthology Film Archives, the international center for the preservation, study, and exhibition of avant-garde and independent cinema. In addition to screening films for the public, AFA houses a film museum, research library and art gallery. The event, which raised money for the Archives and celebrated the life and work of avant-garde film maker Stan Brakhage, featured Sonic Youth providing an improvised instrumental collaboration with silent Brakhage’s films. The band performed with drummer/percussionist Tim Barnes (Essex Green, Jukeboxer, Silver Jews).

This portrait of the New York band Sonic Youth marking the band’s 20th anniversary covers its history from the beginnings to today. Numerous video clips and films of live gigs as well as interviews with, and reminiscences of, collaborators over the years will be used to document the musical development of one of the most innovative and influential bands of the last two decades. Contemporaries include former mentor Glenn Branca, composer and conductor of guitar symphonies which had a seminal influence on participating musicians such as Lee Ranaldo and Thurston Moore, who went on to become Sonic Youth’s guitarists. The band members‘ numerous creative arts projects and other musical activities – in particular improvised music – will be covered in depth.

Michel Henritzi plays with the energy of broken music from the 45 rpm "Brave Men Run (In My Family)" with a radical technique which intensifies the sound explosions and coordinates and accelerates the collision of the images drawn of the film. I used a scan to work on these images, filtering them in black and white, increasing the contrast and mixing them with my other reels made during my American travels. I was looking for construction lines revealing the chaotic rhythms of my visual experiences to assemble with that of this super8 of a Sonic Youth performance, it is a hymn to chaos but also to a rediscovered freedom. – Raphaël Maze

Secrets of the Chaos Emerald focuses on Sonic, Manic and Sonia as they help Knuckles, Floating Island's stern guardian of the Chaos Emerald, protect the Chaos Emerald from Dr. Robotnik and his henchmen, Sleet and Dingo. If the Chaos Emerald gets into the wrong hands it can be used as a weapon against Sonic and Mobius, but at the same time the Chaos Emerald can be used to save Mobius - there has never been so much pressure on Sonic and his siblings.

After a year of hard work, The Mania Collab has finally graced YouTube, with over 30 animators and artists from the Sonic community and beyond paying tribute to both the award-winning game, and Sir J's legendary remix!

American writer Susan Sontag has said that “art is a form of consciousness”, and Hélène Cixous that we “annihilate the world with a book”. Exploring the concept of art as a process which enables its makers and observers to approach the unapproachable, Professor Helen Newall presented an interactive lecture-performance, using Isadora Duncan’s ethos of ‘“if I could tell you what it meant, there would be no point in dancing it!’” This animation, which was specially created for the event in collaboration with sound artist, Karen Lauke, formed part of the lecture-performance, and was projected onto three large fine-gauge gauzes hanging the full length of the Rose Theatre stage, the layers rendering the projected images three dimensional.

While Tails is struggling putting together the Tornado, Sonic gets thrown into pure madness.
