Stilleven

Short film based on the personal experiences of the director, who used to be an asylum seeker himself. A young man seeks asylum in the Netherlands. He is received, gets a toilet roll, a plate of Brussels sprouts and a sleeping place in a caravan. Tired, but with a smile on his face, he falls asleep. Nine years later, he sings a Dutch song in the early morning, when he is deported from the country in a police van.

After the death of his wife, Walter is unable to say goodbye to the body. He keeps the body on an altar in his morgue and takes care of it every day. However, this does not have a good effect on the relationship with his daughter Eef, who does not understand the situation. The arrival of Sander ultimately changes this in a strange way.

Estelle is working at a business party. In a shiny herring looking dress she has been serving herring and champagne to the business men. The evening is on its end and everybody left to go home, except for three guests and Estelle. In vain she tries to shut the place down, but the men at the party don't want to go home yet. The Still Life of Estelle is a film about getting used to humiliation, which leads to alienation and stillness.

A photograph is a window into the past, but sometimes the border between the past and the present is not entirely clear.
