The latter tells them there is a range war in progress across the border and that he is looking for men to help make a cattle drive to the rail junction.

Spring Stampede 2000 took place on April 16, 2000 from the United Center in Chicago, Illinois. The main event was a series of tournaments for the vacant WCW Championships. The previous week on Nitro, all titles were vacated and put on the line at this PPV. Rather than list matches, here were the finalists for each title. The US Championship contenders were The Wall, Sting, Scott Steiner, Ernest Miller, Mike Awesome, Booker, Billy Kidman, and Vampiro. Tag Team Championship contenders were Harlem Heat 2000, Shane Douglas & Buff Bagwell, Team Package (Flair & Luger), The Harris Brothers, and The Mamalukes. The Cruiserweight title was up for grabs in a Suicide Six-Way match and Norman Smiley competed against Terry Funk for the Hardcore Championship. The World Heavyweight Championship was between Diamond Dallas Page and Jeff Jarrett.

Brothers Mike and Tim McCall own a large ranch in Arizona, using the surrounding lands for grazing cattle. Stanley Cox and LeRoy Stanton sell this land to settlers who arrive to find it bone dry, as a dam on the McCall ranch controls the water. Among the settlers are John Dawson and his daughter Connie. The latter goes to the nearest town to take action, but Sheriff Ball tells him there is nothing he can do. Tim falls for Connie but Mike is unimpressed with her charms. While returning from a town dance, Tim discovers Stanton trying to dynamite the dam, and is killed in the ensuing gunfight. Stanton later sends his men to stampede the cattle while he and Cox blow up the dam. Despite the efforts of Mike and Sheriff Ball, the cattle are wiped out and Mike races to the dam and kills Stanton in a gunfight.

The main event was a ten-man tag team match featuring The Hart Foundation (Bret Hart, Jim Neidhart, Owen Hart, British Bulldog and Brian Pillman) against Steve Austin, Ken Shamrock, Goldust and the Legion of Doom (Hawk and Animal). The featured matches on the undercard were The Undertaker versus Vader for the WWF Championship.

After the herds come thundering in, the focus shifts to one cowboy in particular, and we follow him as he travels from rodeo to rodeo, always reaching for the grand prize on the back of a bucking bronco.

Unfolding over the course of a day, "Stampede" turns its attention to visitors at the event. We follow them through the entrance line, onto rides and standing for the national anthem. Crowds crunch popcorn, eat giant turkey legs and horses are tenderly groomed—another day at the fair. The film focuses on faces and gestures as people wait absentmindedly, tuning out the noise. Inward looking with subtle humour, these portraits reveal the quietness at the heart of the crowd, and as the sun goes down a sense of exhaustion rises.

In this romantic western, the real stars are a mustang and a police dog. The human aspect of the story centers on a rodeo rider whose late father bequeathed him a ranch in Calgary, Canada. The rider really tries to settle down to ranching, but finds himself pining for the rodeo. His forewoman, also a former rodeo performer, thinks her employer is shirking his duties and needs to forget about broncos, and bull-riding and settle down. Meanwhile, the fellow also longs to catch the white stallion running wild. The dog helps out.
