In 1969, The Department of City Planning in New York City developed a new city-wide plan. This documentary, produced and written by John Peer Nugent and narrated by notable urbanist William H. Whyte, was released on public television to provide a behind-the-scenes peek at the planning process. There's a lot that is gone from contemporary New York in this documentary: a gritty Hell's Kitchen, a robust Model Cities program, and acres of slums in Bedford-Stuyvesant. But there's a lot that, for better or worse, is still the same: poverty and prosperity, diversity and wealth, greed and good intentions.

Bastinda sends an array of hazards, including an impish Ogre, knife wielding tigers, and winged monkeys to get the shoes from her. The monkeys are successful, and bring her to the castle. How will she find Goodwin now?

An experimental silent film made in the early 1960s providing an intimate look at the citizens of Chicago. The film combines tongue-in-cheek footage of street advertisements, movie theatres, and other signifiers of city life, with scenes depicting the daily goings on of Chicagoans. The City borrows from traditional documentary film aesthetics, yet the narrative is complicated towards the end by fictional flourishes in what can be best described as a post-modernist take on the stressors and violence inherent to city life. Major thoroughfares and landmarks are heavily featured, such as Maxwell Street and Lincoln Park.

The City is a 1994 Malayalam action film. Directed by I.V. Sasi, this film had a strong cast including Suresh Gopi, Urvashi, Lalu Alex, Ratheesh, Ahana and Anandaraj. As a star studded film, this was a big hit at the box office with the interstate point of views.

The poet Yevgeny Yevtushenko, himself once an immigrant in New York, wrote that NYC is not a city, not a country, but all humanity in one drop. THE CITY explores this humanity, now, in New York City, through the unique eyes of non-native New Yorkers, exiles, immigrants, refugees, eccentrics, and a Ghost. A collage of stories, together with the montage of images, sound and music, running through the film like a heartbeat, create New York moments, frozen in a particular time. Accompanied by haunting visuals, Rainer Maria Rilke's poetry, and a unique score by Sxip Shirey's "mutant harmonica," THE CITY is also a visual poem to a city of immigrants, which keeps re-inventing itself through its history, and into the new century.

During the dates of celebrating the Emperor's 80th birthday, an opera troupe from southern China was invited to come to Beijing to perform for the Emperor. Afterwards, the opera troupe was granted to stay in Beijing and became what we had known as 'Peking Opera' today.

Facilitated by Echo Park Film Center, Hanoi Doclab and the Goethe Institute, The Sound We See: A Hanoi City Symphony invited a group of young Vietnamese filmmakers to explore their city on film, shooting with Super 8 cameras and processing/editing the images by hand.
