Past meets present in a film that is evocative in approach, energized by breathtaking cinematography and an uplifting musical score, and offers a new and articulate voice to the artists who were the Group of Seven. Painted Land weaves seamlessly the experiences of Lawren Harris, J.E.H. MacDonald, A.Y. Jackson, Frank Johnston, Arthur Lismer, Franklin Carmichael and A.J. Casson – with the adventures of three modern day sleuths. Historian Michael Burtch, and the writer and photographer team of Gary and Joanie McGuffin are determined to track down the precise locations of these famous paintings. Archival film, letters, journals and photographs of the artists – some of which have never been seen in public – take the viewers back in time.

The Seven Last Words of Christ was commissioned so the piece could be performed in the church of Cadiz for Good Friday. The priest quoted the words of the Christ, followed by a musical accompaniment. Haydn completes these seven movements with a final Earthquake. Jordi Savall invites us to listen to the original score in the very place where it was premiered, the church of Santa Cueva in Cadiz.

This color film reprises the female impersonator Adrian's nightclub act of the same name: "'Salome and the Dance of the Seven Veils' introduced the Club 82's new season to New Yorkers, in 1958. It was an immediate hit, and Adrian stayed on for four years, delighting audiences that came from all parts of the country and the world to see him. One of the reasons for its success was that Adrian, wanting everything to go perfectly, designed and made his own costume. He discovered a new talent, which he continues to use. The wax head of John the Baptist, which he uses in his act, is the same one which Brenda Lewis used in the Metropolitan Opera." - Avery Willard, Female Impersonators, 1971.
