This remarkable five DVD box set and bonus CD take the viewer on a journey from the early days of the Cavern Club to the worldwide superstardom of John Paul George and Ringo. Its release is perfectly timed for the recent resurgence of interest in the early history of the band following the film Nowhere Boy which delves into John Lennon's teen years. The boxed set contains rare film newsreel and performance footage mostly unseen photographs and interviews and two compelling documentaries about John Lennon and George Harrison. Both films - John Lennon: The Messenger and George Harrison: The Quiet One - are a 'must see' for any Beatles fan. Tony Sheridan is a British singer-songwriter and guitarist most famous for his performances in Hamburg with backing band The Beat Brothers. No prizes for guessing who they eventually became! Paul McCartney considered Sheridan their 'teacher'. The CD contains rare recordings of The Beatles performing together with Tony Sheridan.

Thirteen Smiths' recordings, half of them in a club with a live audience. These alternate with five rock videos, two directed by Derek Jarman (Panic and Ask), two by Tim Broad (Girlfriend in a Coma and Stop Me...), and one by Paula Grief and Richard Levine (How Soon Is Now?). It concludes with Jarman's short film, "The Queen Is Dead," with a three-song soundtrack. The rock videos, particularly Jarman's, are filled with multiple and superimposed images, changing tints, and little narrative coherence; they get their pace from the music's rhythm. Androgyny, dancing children, belching smokestacks, graffiti, angry young men, a waif in a cap: collages of modern alienation.

To commemorate the 400th anniversary of the Bard's death, Shakespeare's Globe has assembled an all-star cast to make 37 short films – one for each play – and here's the twist: each lavish 10 minute vignette is made on location in the real setting of each plot. The films have been directed by a selection of young directors and blend existing Shakespeare's Globe footage with new material shot in locations that capture the breadth of the Bard's imagination, including the Pyramids of Dahshur in Egypt, the rocks of Elsinore, Denmark, and the historic Jewish Ghetto of Venice, Italy. “Love's Labour's Lost”, which starred Gemma Arterton as Rosaline, was filmed at the Royal Palace of Olite, Navarre, Spain.
