Peter And The Magic Seeds

Saint Peter, a reluctant but passionate leader, from the crucifixion of Jesus to his own. The film's first half dramatizes the New Testament's "Acts": early fear, the renewal of Pentecost, Saul's conversion, the decision to baptize pagans, and the Apostles' dispersal. In the second half, an aged Peter goes to Rome to join Paul, arriving on the day of Paul's arrest. Paul's death brings a crisis to Rome's Christians and to Peter; lessons from Jesus's teachings guide his decision to stay. Events within the fictive household of Persius, a Roman aristocrat, capture the upheaval that Christian teachings bring to the Eternal City.

When a powerful earthquake razes Messina to the ground, Peter is trapped and his whereabouts are forgotten. Until a century later an English archaeologist and his daughter arrive in the city.

After lunch, the trio settles in as grandfather recounts "The Story" of Peter's adventures with a bird, cat, and dizzy duck on the outskirts "of a very dark forest." The film morphs into a clever cartoon designed by the legendary Chuck Jones (of Wile E. Coyote fame). The "story within a story" leaps to life while the accompanying musical instruments also emerge as playful personalities.

Siblings Peti and Kati accompanied by Félix, their small dachshund, visit their great-uncle, Professor Leonardo, who is just then working on his latest invention, the automaton. The mechanical ‘employee’ is ready to do all the jobs around the home: cooking, vacuuming, cutting the grass, darning socks, sewing on buttons, shining shoes. But when uncle Leo leaves home, the kids sneak back into the house and set the automaton going. The playful prank ends up in a dizzying muddle.

Written and directed by Luiz Bolognesi, this short film tells the adventures of two homeless men on the streets of São Paulo. The film was inspired by old popular legends about the wandering of Jesus and Saint Peter around the world.
