Going to take up his post in Moukden, the forest engineer finds in a trainer from the cabaret "the midnight sun" a Russian princess, Armide, whom he once loved. He had met her in 1917 when the princess and her father were driven from their domain. Prince Ireniev is a gambler, a trickster, a matchmaker. Out of love for Armide, Forestier flew, and yet when he finds the two wrecks, he cannot resist. Abandoning everything, his position and his honor, he leaves with the woman of his destiny.

This is the the sad story of a car manufacturer, short of the readies, who asks his wife for money (for she owns the fortune). She refuses for her dad bankrupted himself and she would not be able to stand poverty again. He contemplates suicide but someone comes to his rescue and there's still hope: they can win the "Circuit De Minuit", a motor race. Besides, there's a another woman who cares for him.

Five people are gathered in a cafe because of a phone call they have all received. The plot thickens when they discover a dead body in a bedroom upstairs.The five people all become suspects.

The film is based on the bitter rivalry of two pigeon racers, Fred, the bell-ringer of Bruges and Neel, the fiancé of Fred's partially sighted sister. Following a major tournament, won by Neel's bird, Fred's resentment drives him to mount an attack upon his rival so ferocious that he believes he has killed him. Seized by remorse, he intends to throw himself from the belfry, but his disabled sister risks her own life to mount to the tower and try to save him.

Jean Bonnefoy, who has a talent for singing, is unemployed. So he is very happy the day he is offered a post as a music teacher in a college for young women. But he soon realizes the job is only a mixed blessing as a group of girls have set about making life tough for him. Among them is Anny Laforcade, a student who finally changes sides, taking pity on her teacher and falling in love with him. At one point, Jean meets Zébulon, a talent agent who decides to launch his singing career. Zébulon has a far-fetched idea: He asks Anny to disappear for a few days thus making people believe that she has committed suicide out of love for Jean. The latter, who is not aware of the scheme, is devastated.

Mara is a beautiful young woman with a string of one-night stands, but they don't fill the void inside her. Except that one day, a former lover of hers is determined to exact his revenge.

In 1942, in the middle of World War II, a young boy uses the tales in the 1001 Nights book and the wonderful story of Sheherazade to protect his mother who is engaged in undercover activities with the publisher Editions de Minuit.
