A hard-drinking vampire meets his nemesis in a hippie slayer in drag. This student parody of English urban Gothic horror was filmed in shadowy locations around Durham in the 1970s. The debauched creature of the night bears a striking resemblance to glam pop star Roy Wood of Wizzard fame … and appears to be wearing flares. Fangs for the Memory was an exercise in low-light cinematography, produced by students as part of the pioneering Film and Television course at Durham University’s Bede College, run by film historian Dr David Williams MBE. It was filmed on location around historic Gilesgate and St Bede College, and also the night-time modern pedestrian walkways of Leazes Road, built in 1967. In his celebrated 1934 travelogue An English Journey, author J.B. Priestley described Durham’s “baleful dark bulk of castle, which makes the city look like some place in a Gothic tale of blood and terror”.
In Memory of Laura is a shocking blend of psychological horror and sexual obsession. When a man loses his one true love his depression soon turns to insanity. His fractured mind leads him on a relentless hunt through sordid lonely streets for a replacement for Laura, dead or alive. This unnerving, squalid short is truly unsettling to watch.

This new media installation by Vancouver artist Althea Thauberger is a collaboration with the performers Jessica Griffiths, Gemma Isaac, Kaoru Matsushita and Natalie Needham. Each girl has developed her own characters, costumes, script and songs in response to a story about confronting death through improvisation and singing. Shot in a North Vancouver backyard around a pool with lush landscaping, the film is cinematically lit and shot as a stage production played out in real time.
Video clips taken during trips have been reimagined into a science fiction narrative, pondering utopias/dystopias, climate change, and “Star Trek” planetary locations.
What do you do, when the only person you love, forgets you are his lover?
short film by Ivan Cheng
This film tells the riveting story of Miklos Radnoti, a Hungarian poet who perished in the Holocaust. Throughout his forced travels from the Bor copper mine in Serbia to a remote work camp and finally to a mass grave in a Hungarian village, Radnoti was determined to keep writing and to find a way to preserve his poems. The film is at once a love story, an examination of Radnoti’s patriotism, and a sobering view of the Hungarian holocaust. Radnoti’s startlingly original poems are read in translation and, most movingly, in Hungarian.
