January 22, 1932. An unprecedented peasant uprising erupts in western El Salvador, as a group of Latino and indigenous peasants cut army supply lines, attack a military garrison, and take control over several towns. Retribution is swift. After three days, the army and militias move in and, in some villages, slaughter all males over age 12. Elsewhere, they summarily execute anyone suspected of having a link to the Communists. Over the next few weeks, 10,000 people are massacred.

For a very long time, the French government has chosen to ignore the Vichy regime, its collaboration with Nazi Germany and its crimes, in an attempt to erase the past and reconcile all French citizens. Although historians, writers and filmmakers have helped develop a certain awareness on this controversial subject, it has been mostly civil society that has led the fight against falsification and denial, in the name of truth and justice.

Jewish memories of the Marolles-Midi district of Brussels] is a French-language documentary based on a selection from interviews which the Auschwitz Foundation recorded during the 1990’s with six survivors of the Nazi camps. These six adopted “Marollians” are Joseph Berman, David Blum, Hélène Gangarska, Baron Maurice Goldstein, Henri Kichka and Maurice Pioro. We follow them as they settle into the district. They go on to recount the fateful period from the entry into force of the first anti-Jewish measures in Belgium to the roundups which from 1942 onwards led to their deportation to Auschwitz, where most of the Jews were murdered.

“Te guardo no bolso da saudade” is an essay film that rescues through memories, narration and archival images the story of Neide, a black woman who died during the 2003 Carnival in Natal, Rio Grande do Norte. The work consists of the realization of this short film, from pre-production to post-production, phases that will be detailed through this process report.

The 'Vídeo nas Aldeias' performed with the Enawenê Nawê Indians, for fifteen years, extensive records of Yaõkwa, their longest ritual, in which the masters of ceremony pull, for seven months, a myriad of songs, in order to maintain the balance of the earthly world as a spiritual world. In this film, another fifteen years later, the Enawenê Nawê rediscover these images and, with them, deceased relatives, customs that have fallen into disuse and precious ritual songs.

The film arose from an encounter with Mario Botta during the 2013 Architecture and Memory exhibit held at the Charlotte, North Carolina Bechtler Museum of Modern Art which was designed by the architect. The exhibit gathered and then proposed to the public the Swiss architect’s most significant projects spanning the gamut from his first single-family homes, original expressions of the School of Ticino, to his large public buildings, libraries, theatres, museums, churches and synagogues which have been built across the globe and features more than 90 works. The film is a dialogue on the themes which characterize Mario Botta’s vision and practice: his relationship with history and the territory, the designing of collective spaces, encounters with the leading protagonists of the 20th century. The interview, conducted in Mario Botta’s studio in Mendrisio, is replete with photographic materials, designs and sketches which document his “spaces of memory”.

In a house under construction for 30 years, the reading of its descriptive memory and the collection of documents about its construction process awaken fragments of uncertain memories. From an image and sound research, an unfinished film emerges about an unfinished house.

The racism between their families forces Carla and Helena to keep their friendship as a secret. They both share a dream: to be Olympic swimmers.
