In 2001, a group of Israeli women, most of them in their sixties, established Machsom Watch (Checkpoint Watch), an organization dedicated to guarding the human rights of Palestinians who must regularly pass through checkpoints between Israel and the West Bank. For years, these women documented the troubling activity taking place at the checkpoints, giving viewers a never-before-seen look at the occupation. As the women revisit the footage from the checkpoints, this moving film showcases those who stood at the heart of the conflict, exposing the daily struggle of Palestinians living under occupation.

The first sequence shows us an elderly woman in the process of taking a test which seems extremely simple. However, the patient cannot remember the words she has just read. This loss of memory is one of the symptoms of Alzheimer's disease. With patience and respect, Richard Dindo meets people suffering from this scourge. In the course of these testimonies, “La maladie de la mémoire” makes the difficult confrontation with the gulf of forgetfulness particularly sensitive. This film modifies our intimite relationship with the past, the present, but also with the future.

Created from super 8 footage that was shot in the 1970s of the family dogs and the trains that my father worked on, this film explores the decay of memory and image. The super 8 film grew fungus while stored in a basement. It was then optically printed up to 16mm and slowed down so that the snowflake shaped fungus could be studied. Narration presents fragmented stories of childhood memories. This film was created as a source film, which was later physically cut up and reprinted with a flashlight to destroy the image and sound for the subsequent film «Mechanical/Animal Memory» which is owned by the NFB.
