Mark Lowry: On Broadway is the first new comedy project from Christian music's favorite funny-man in over four years. Mark lives his dream and plays the headliner on Broadway at the Beacon Theatre in New York City, where this live performance is captured. A cast of musical friends including Sandi Patty and the Gaither Vocal Band are there to sing their support. Meanwhile, Mark spoofs several Broadway tunes, shares the story behind his song "Mary, Did You Know?" and honors the woman who is the subject of so many of his routines. Songs: Don't Rain on My Parade, Broadway Melody, I Thirst, Bein' Happy, Walk on the Water, A Whole New World, Piper Steals the Show, Livin' for Deep Fried Okra, Just a Little While, Guest Request Medley, Keep on the Firing Line, Patriotic Medley, Let Freedom Ring, Movin' on Up, Mary Did You Know.
For one night in history, one man single-handedly turned "Hollywood" into "Lowrywood." Will the city ever be the same again? Could he do it without Bill Gaither? Find out in Mark Lowry Goes to Hollywood. With a little help from a tremendous line-up of musical guests, Mark Lowry delivers a healthy dose of side-splitting comedy and a power-packed line-up of great music in this live video event. Mark forms his own "Mark Lowry Vocal Band" just for the occasion with Michael English, Reggie Smith, and Bill Gaither. Great performances by The Isaacs, LordSong, Stan Whitmire, and Karen Harding and the "reMarkable Choir" cap off the evening perfectly in this video event of a lifetime!
Mark Lowry is a very clever comedian, as well as an excellent singer, and this DVD focuses on his funny routines during the thirteen years he spent with the Gaither Vocal Band. The way it is presented, is that Mark and Bill Gaither are shown in a relaxed setting, as they sit and talk about the clips they show from the many Homecoming Series concerts around the country, as well as one in Ireland, and a short piece in England. It also includes some terrific music with the comedy, and my favorites are the two versions of "I'm Gonna Keep On", with Bill trying to sing the song while he is interrupted by bird calls and Mark's mischief; it's a terrific combination of wonderful music and harmonies, and at the same time totally hilarious. Well edited, this is a fast moving one hour and thirty-five minute show, interesting as well amusing, with often laugh-out-loud humor. Good clean fun is hard to come by, and Mark is one of the best at it. -Alejandra Vernon
