La Fontaine turns filmmaker is a new film from The Cinema Owl. You will remember how last year, Wake Up and Dream Again invited children from 3 to 8 years old to discover some wonderful stories halfway between the world of dreams and the real world! This time The Cinema Owl has brought back from her travels six short films in the form of fables about animals, each with a strong message. La Fontaine turns filmmaker, in the tradition of our cartoon favourites, is both educational and a lot of laughs.

Joe is a rich boy who can’t stay with one girl. One day, he meets Flora in a hospital and falls in love with her. He asks his friend to find out who Flora is. Actually, Flora also secretly gets a crush on Joe but she doubts of his loyalty although Joe has left his bad habit. Their relationship is getting closer but one day Joe finds out that he suffers a brain cancer. He then starts to be a loner and sensitive. Flora is suspicious because Joe does his old habit again. Subsequently, Joe also knows that Flora suffers from chronic kidney illness. Moreover, Flora is an orphan, Joe feels so sorry and promise to make her happy for the rest of her life. Joe gives one of his kidneys to Flora. After the surgery, Joe’s condition is getting worse. Flora hopes that she can do something.

‘De Verrekijker’ primary school in Katwijk provides education for some 150 children from the local reception centre for refugees. The inspired teachers’ ultimate challenge is to offer these children a safe haven and make their school days as ordinary as possible. At first glance, De Verrekijker looks like a normal Dutch primary school. However, the boys and girls are children of rejected asylum seekers. Headmaster Toon and the teachers do all they can to give them the best education. Yet each morning they worry if any pupil has been forced to leave the country. After a series of deportations it becomes increasingly difficult to provide the children with a safe haven. The situation escalates when a group of Syrian boys fleeing war arrive at the school.

The film consists of three sequences shot by a fixed camera: the first shows the balcony of a hospital with patients (soundtrack from the film "Vivre sa vie" by Jean-Luc Godard), the second is a scraped wall and the third is a crossroad with pedestrians and cars (sound taken from the film "The Time-Machine " by George Pal).

Wolfgang follows a ransom note from his supposed illegal kidney donor Irina back to Istanbul, the city which he would love to erase from memory. Donor and recipient collide and struggle for a fair solution after which there is a bitter new beginning
