In the darkroom, 50 unexposed film strips were laid across a surface, upon which a frame of "La sortie des ouvrier de l'usine Lumière" was projected. The stringing together of the individual developed sections make up the new film, which reads the original frame like a page from a musical score: within the strips from top to bottom and sequentially from left to right.

This work consists of a fixed shot capturing the natural phenomenon of light flowing in from beyond the horizon, which Nakai encountered at a beach when shooting Alchemy. Ga-young, who is blind, is learning to live by herself after her father passed away. Then one day, she hears the news that the theater where his father worked as a projectionist will be gone, and so, she visits the theater. As Ga-young heads to the projection room only by following the sound and scent, she reunites with her father in the projection room, which was the biggest universe to her.
French-made documentary, "Métro Lumière", which actually does help provide some of the context for Hsiao-hsien's approach to the film. It includes excerpts from Ozu's films, in particular, "Equinox Flower", to show the parallels with this film, the obvious basis for some of the scenes and situation set-ups.

This work deals with the discovery of light and of its power to reconstruct images. Through a boy who discovers the possibilities of framing and manipulating light with a mirror, the idea of making images appears in the daily life of the children living in the old streets of Saida. Reflected light becomes a knowledge that is transmitted from child to child and a source of friendship and curiosity.
