During the evening of March 13, 1997, a mile-wide, V-shaped formation of lights (that seemed to be attached to something) slowly and silently traversed throughout Arizona at a very low altitude for many hours. The inexplicable and awesome event was witnessed by thousands of people, while they were looking up at the sky, purposely to catch a glimpse of the Halle-Bopp Comet. The significant statewide incident garnering headline news, catching the attention of USA Today, CNN, MSNBC, The Discovery Channel, EXTRA, national morning TV shows, as well as the Evening News with Tom Brokaw and Dan Rather.

Model Starlet, leads a double life; at night, she becomes Sherry, a Times Square prostitute, in order to search for her brother's killer. He was a marine who had been involved in a game of hot potato with a live hand-grenade on a boat returning from Lebanon. The game had ended tragically when the grenade went off, killing three men and injuring six others, castrating one of them. Now someone is stalking New York and stabbing ex-marines to death, leaving fake hand-grenades between their legs after castrating them. Hard-boiled policeman Flanigan thinks Starlet is putting herself in too much danger, so he intentionally exposes her double identity, then poses as her to catch the real killer.

But when Twinkle Toes gets a taste of the Broadway limelight, the chance for stardom overwhelms Twinkle Toes and the show is ruined! To make things right, Twinkle Toes must use all her creativity, smarts, and dancing skills to help her new friends and save the show!

Stare Into The Lights My Pretties investigates these questions with an urge to return to the real physical world, to form a critical view of technological escalation driven by rapacious and pervasive corporate interest. Covering themes of addiction, privacy, surveillance, information manipulation, behavior modification and social control, the film lays the foundations as to why we may feel like we're sleeprunning into some dystopian nightmare with the machines at the helm. Because we are, if we don't seriously avert our eyes to stop this culture from destroying what is left of the real world.

Events in an idyllic African village are shown in detail in the period just before logging trucks come in and cut down the forest around the villagers, forcing them to move into the wretched shantytowns that surround major cities throughout the undeveloped world. Despite the familiar premise, this surprisingly unsentimental film by Georgian director Otar Ioselliani has several things going for it, beginning with the cinematography and including the natural and unaffected (non-professional) performances of the villagers.
