Alice, a widowed Frenchwoman, goes on a vacation to Italy. Upon her return, she relates the particulars of her holiday. Within a 24-hour time frame, Alice gets on the wrong boat, winds up in Switzerland where she whiles away the hours at a casino, meets a handsome young German army deserter named Thomas, spends the night with her new acquaintance, pays his sizeable gambling debts, and helps him elude the authorities...

Based on research by Ariane Chemin, this documentary tells the story of how French soldier Félix Mora recruited young Moroccans en masse for the mines of industrial France in the 1960s and 1970s as the French economy was booming. This recruitment led to a new generation of working-class French citizens through immigration.

Jean Paoli recently betrothed to Evelyne Desprez, his boss's daughter, gets tuberculosis and has to go away to get rest and fresh air. He leaves for Corsica and has to break his engagement.
