24 February 2022: Russia invades Ukraine. Romain Goupil leaves for Kyiv in a hurry. It was an imperative decision for him to go and support the Ukrainian resistance by filming to bear witness. He left without knowing if he would find a family ready to welcome him to share with them life day after day under the threat of bombing. Finally, the Kyiv circus welcomed him. Romain spent a month in this closed environment imposed by the war on men and animals.

Taken from an automobile. This picture was taken during the fashionable driving hour, making a complete circle of the Place de la Concorde, passing hundreds of carriages and busses. The beginning of the picture shows the historical church of the Madeleine in the background, the picture ending by approaching and running under the main entrance to the Paris Exposition.
In 1972, Louis Malle adopted the direct cinema approach to film passers-by in the Place de la République in Paris, taking stock of their daily lives... Forty-five years later, as a tribute to Louis Malle, young director Hafid Aboulahyane repeats the experience in his own way, revealing the profound changes that have taken place since then. Worlds open up, respond to each other and collide, through a mosaic of characters blending their personal histories with that of this emblematic place.
After watching Louis Malle’s Place de la République, a young film-maker decides thirty years later to return on his footsteps at the same time of the year to shoot another documentary using an identical set-up.
