With no final destination in sight, a couple takes a leave-it-all-behind road trip up north. Their perspectives on life clash as their relationship unravels.
Sang-wu is from a small village near Mount Jiri. After finishing high school and college at Jeonju, now a man in his 30s, he works as a stage producer. The film depicts his life through three episodes: his youth, his final year in college, and his present-day situation. At each point he faces unexpected chances and experiences unfamiliar yet meaningful events that shape his development.
Thomas is an up-and-coming actor. His proud and loving father is watching him in a Shakespeare performance. Not long afterwards, his father dies, Thomas accidentally kills a bicyclist with his car, his girlfriend leaves him, and he develops a disorder of the inner ear. As a consequence of these and other misfortunes, he becomes depressed, attempts suicide, and has a psychotic break which lands him in a mental hospital.
On a Summer afternoon, Pedro packs the last few boxes before having to leave his apartment in New York. 12 years ago, Pedro and Ana had arrived in America from Portugal, in search of a dream. Now, Ana's voice describes, from the other side of the ocean, that same country to which they are returning. As the rooms are emptied, Pedro bids farewell to one life, welcoming another. But the dream that brought him will remain forever in the city that never sleeps, awaiting his return.
