Ending months of speculation and anticipation surrounding the first Fare Thee Well -Celebrating 50 Years of the Grateful Dead concert, the “core four” remaining Grateful Dead members -drummers Bill Kreutzmann and Mickey Hart, bassist Phil Lesh and guitarist Bob Weir -along with Phish guitarist Trey Anastasio and keyboardists Bruce Hornsby and Jeff Chimenti slowly eased into “Truckin’” to begin the show. The biographical lyrics to the song proved to be a fitting choice to start the anniversary celebration, with the famed “What a long strange trip it’s been” verse capturing the moment perfectly. Recorded at Levi's Stadium on June 27th and 28th, 2015.

Circles Around The Sun is a documentary included as part of the Fare Thee Well: Celebrating 50 Years of Grateful Dead. The project began when Casal was asked by video director Justin Kreutzmann to compose and record more than five hours of original music to be played along with the visuals Kreutzmann was preparing for the Fare Thee Well intermissions. "The idea was to not only show reverence for the past but to ultimately, move it forward. If there's anything to be learned from the Grateful Dead, it is to dissolve your boundaries, push your limits, and discover your own voice in this world," explains Casal, the lead guitarist and co-lyricist for The Chris Robinson Brotherhood and part-time member of Phil Lesh and Friends. All of the music on INTERLUDES FOR THE DEAD was written collectively - with nothing prepared beforehand or added afterward - and recorded live by engineer J.P. Hesser.

Ending their long strange trip of 50 years, the surviving members of the Grateful Dead played their final "Fare Thee Well" concert at Chicago's Soldier Field Sunday night, urging a massive fervent crowd to take the feeling of the night, "Remember it, take it home and do some good with it - please, be kind.” In honor of the 50th anniversary event, the great Playing For Change released a video of their own cadre of global artists covering "Ripple." "The ripple effect," said Playing co-founder Mark Johnson, "is that the next generation gets to learn to play music all over the world.” Net proceeds from the video will benefit the Playing For Change Foundation’€™s music schools and programs for children worldwide.
