During the International Film Festival Rotterdam in 2002, Leo Hannewijk (festival director Film by the Sea) approached filmmaker and producer Digna Sinke with the idea of asking several film makers to make short films based on poems about the province of Zeeland. It would offer an opportunity to investigate the limits of the medium film and, just like poetry, not to focus on the story but to tackle universal and grander themes through mood and form. In the end, eight short films were realized, by eight different filmmakers. The films are connected by intermezzi, aerial shots of the Zeeland coasts. Poems of the Sea is a stirring and surprising portrayal of Zeeland. Filled with desires and passion.

Harsh life in the auction site made Huda want to achieve his dream to catch the golden fish in sea. Sri, a fish collector, is close with Huda and considers the ‘golden fish’ as a myth. However, Huda is becoming more confident that if he were to catch the golden fish, his life would be happier. In the end, Huda must choose whether to survive in the fish auction site with little hope or go to find the golden fish in desperation.

Between night and day, the hills of a village in Israel. The young Dekel tries pulling himself together from a painful break-up. Within the imprecision of a natural backdrop dipped into the sweetness of the moon, he stumbles upon his friend Doron whose lit-up shoes spread light visible kilometres away.
