Film Wings

The Reverend Rodger Perkins, a Presbyterian missionary to Brazil, portrays himself in this true story of a young missionary flyer who travels between remote villages in an impassioned campaign to use “wings to speed the Word of God.” Narrated by Alexander Scourby.

It’s 1946, Rose Cornell, a resolute young woman, struggles with her faith while searching for answers after a series of painful events. She has been abandoned by her mother, her brother is addicted to illegal gambling, and a near tragic crash has taken away her favorite pastime of flying airplanes. As Rose reaches the point of turning her back on her faith, will an unlikely source lead her to the goodness of God? Will she find His love, faithfulness, and restoration? Follow Rose's journey to find an answer to the age old question, "God if you're in control, why do bad things happen?”

Any unlucky carcass is dispatched in a matter of minutes by a feeding frenzy that attracts jackals and hyenas along with vultures. Scavenging insects swarm over the remaining bones and horns. While this film focuses primarily on the griffin vulture (“nature’s undertaker”), it considers the role of all scavengers in this harsh ecosystem. Generally despised as harbingers of death, they actually help maintain the health of the savannah by disposing of waste and returning nutrients to the soil.

As WWII continues, more and more men are called upon to take to the skies in Allied bombers for missions over Germany. As such, many ground crew in Allied air units are being filled by women. One such unit is the 9,000 strong Women's Division of the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF). Getting recruits on average of several hundred per month, the Division is comprised of women from all backgrounds. The recruits ask for no special favors and know that the work they will be doing is hard and important all for the war effort. The women endure much the same as their male counterparts. And much as the men do, their work ranges from the technical engineering functions in support of the bombers themselves, but also in all aspects of the military. Many prepare for their post-war life where their work will act in the support of the civilian air services

Alex Taylor knows that his dream of running for his high school track team is not only unrealistic, but out of his reach. Blind since the age of two, Alex is determined to beat the odds and prays for a running partner to help him cross the finish line. However, help comes from an unlikely source when a schoolmate with a troubled past offers to help him race. The boys begin working together in the hopes of making the team, and believe that with a little faith, anything is possible.
