After a vacation to a seaside resort, a Spanish mayor attempts to modify his small rural town for tourists in an attempt to make money.

At the end of the 19th century, in a little Italian village by a lake an old statue is recovered. Soon a series of crimes start and the superstitious people of the village believe that the statue carries an ancient malediction.

A fresh new look at Lolita, the famous and controversial novel published in 1955 by Russian writer Vladimir Nabokov (1891-1977), a masterpiece of English-language literature that has been constantly misinterpreted by countless readers who have mistakenly turned its young heroine into an erotic icon.

Setting out on her own, 25-year-old Alice visits several apartments with the help of real estate agent Julien, a married man with children. They soon fall in love. Around the same time, Alice takes work at Julien's wife Marie's tea shop. Charmed by the interest Alice shows in her, Marie lets her guard down and starts confiding in her. In return, Alice, tells Marie about her affair with a married man. Things come to a head when Julien has a car accident and the affair is exposed.

The "black robe" in the title of this suspense film belongs to a female lawyer, Florence Nat who has just lost a case in which she defended Simon Risler, a man wrongly accused of murder. Risler escapes before he can be put in prison, and seeks help from attorney Nat in finding the real killer, partly by going after the police inspector who framed him in the first place. A retired surgeon, in the process of setting up a drug rehab clinic gets involved in solving Risler's case, and soon the solution seems to be pointing to high-ranking figures with every desire and ample means to keep the truth well-hidden.

A group of people are recruited by the brain of a band of robbers to commit the theft of some gold bars. Each character has a particular problem why he needs the money, but all are pretty sloppy.

The murder of an independent journalist changes the course of the investigation, stirring up the past and unveiling the forgotten "Children of the Creuse" affair.

Javier is dedicated to waste money. Churri flirts with several suitors, and end up choosing the least of it is. Jorge lose too much time exercising and neglected studies, and Pili, even a child, she spends hours without leaving the cinema. Javier gets into financial problems that threaten to take him to jail, and Marisol decides to get the money anyway. Furthermore, it decides, with the help of the maid of the house, Herminia, and a friend he met on the train, trying to straighten out the family, earning the enmity of immediate Leonor, who from the beginning did not look favorably upon the arrival of the child.

In this whimsical fable, Resnais deftly interweaves three story lines: the creation of an early-20th-century utopia; romantic high jinks at a school conference; and a fantasy sparked by F/X pioneer Georges Méliès.
