The film begins with a close-up of a table in a restaurant covered with a checkered cloth, in a composition that strongly suggests a still life. It lingers there for a long time before beginning a slow outward zoom. All the while we overhear poorly recorded snippets of conversation. We see hands move in and out of the frame, lifting glasses and tapping cigarettes. We recognise Edie Sedgwick by her signature dancer's tights and jewellery. The group discuss a recent trip to Tangier; the conversation returns frequently to past and upcoming travel. At one point, a whole, uncut pineapple is delivered to their table, despite the fact that they are in an Italian restaurant: it is not meant to be eaten, but to evoke the possibility of adventure in exotic, semi-imaginary lands.

From the days of illegal raves to the dark club sounds of Optical and Ed Rush, The Rest Is History is a celebration of the early years of Jungle and Drum & Bass music, how it developed into a world-conquering genre, and the culture that surrounded it. It is a story of rave, resistance, and resilience that champions the scene's pioneers with interviews from Jumpin’ Jack Frost, Ray Keith, Dillinja, Ragga Twins, Micky Finn, Paul Ibiza, and G.Q. and many more of its revolutionary mavericks. An exhilarating and intimate look into the creation of this beloved multicultural underground art form and its continued legacy today.
The film captures the dishes on a table in a forest over a long period of time. The audience’s imagination is stimulated as time passes and the scenery. An eloquent story is told as meaning emerges from the subject. A drama is born out of the contrast between- and the death of- man and nature.
